  1. ahhhh man...

    just checked the stubs

    oct 16th, 2002...

    damn...

(thanks for pointing that out tim...but what about you making the entwistle death mistake TWO years in a row....sigh....we are both getting too old)

Point well taken. But I actually wasn't there when John Entwistle died, while I was at the Rolling Stones concert.

Secondly, I am older than you by several years. So my excuse is I am becoming an old man.

  2. hey timmy i was at that dylan show too... i remember hearing on the radio as we were driving into the big smoke about the stones show... woulda been fun!

however - i've seen dylan a just a handful of times, and that was my favourite. KICKASS.

That was a KICKASS show indeed.

It was the last time I saw Charlie Sexton in Bob Dylan's band, which was my personal favorite of the nine different Bob Dylan with Band lineups I have seen.

I have given "Fine Line" a few listens and I really enjoy it. It looks hopeful that Sir Paul McCartney will continue the tradition of releasing great albums when he does much of the performing of instruments himself.

  4. He truly was amazing.

My ears are still ringing from seeing his band play at Barrymore's about 8 or 10 years ago. That was, by far, the loudest show I've ever seen; including Motorhead and Slayer. (They brought in their own HUMONGOUS speakers, and had to bring in Ottawa Hydro to boost power to the bar.) I am sure it is his fault that Pete Townshend now complains about going deaf. ;)

RIP you crazy, loud nut! Thanks for the memories.

Damn I hate it when billboard get their information wrong! The same thing happened when I posted Bob Weir's birthday earlier this year.

    Hey StoneMtn,

I too was at that John Entwistle gig in Ottawa at Barrymore's and I also reference to it as the loudest gig I have ever attended!

I remember it was before I brought earplugs to bar shows and I had to put kleenx in my ears. Also I remember looking at John's amps and the sound coming out was moving the air so you couldn't read the numbers on some digital stuff on his amps clearly.

I'm happy I got to see John with the Who four times as well.

  5. Wow, thanks for the memory TimmyB.

That means I've loved Kevin Breit for a year, I saw Bruce Hornsby a year ago and Mike and I decided to buy a hot tub a year ago.

Oh man that was an especially good trip to Toronto.

That was a great couple of days of music wasn't it?

I still can't believe I got two requests at the Bruce Hornsby show ("Let it Bleed" because it was Mick Jagger's birthday and Hornsby's own "The Road Not Taken").

To see Prince perform those hits for what he said will be the last time was special. Though I found him often a little to arrogant on stage throughout the night.

And Kevin Breit & Sister Euclid was a great after show for Prince at the Orbit Room.

    Tim

  6. May you rest in peace John. You are one of my all time favorites on the bass.

THIS DAY IN MUSIC For Wednesday July 27, 2005.

2002 - The Who's John Entwistle is found dead in his hotel room in Las Vegas. He has cocaine in his system, and the death is ruled accidental. He is 57.

  7. Hey bouche, Ms. Huxtable, Douglas, Velvet and anyone else that was there,

This is the one year anniversary of the Prince show at the Air Canada Centre (July 27, 2004).

Also it is the 21st anniversary of the premiere the Prince film 'Purple Rain'

    From www.billboard.com

THIS DAY IN MUSIC For Wednesday July 27, 2005

1984 - The Prince film "Purple Rain" premieres.

  8. I saw Ryan Adams for the first time this year at the Kool Haus (Not Bryan Adams, who I saw for the second time this year at Live 8) and I really enjoyed the show.

Ryan has a voice like an angel and his catalogue of material is right up my alley.

I wished that I could have attended those recent Phil Lesh & Friends shows in Colorado with Ryan and I hope that Lesh takes him on the road to a venue closer to home soon or maybe even bonnaroo next year.

  9. No I was at Bob Dylan at the Molson Amphitheatre instead, as Dylan is far more important to me.

Though it being the Rolling Stones in a small venue and that setlist "Stray Cat Blues," "Hot Stuff" and "Torn and Frayed" I have all not heard live by the Stones and as Jaimoe stated their first "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" it would have been a great show to go to.

I was mad that they picked the same night as the Dylan concert as I figured with Ronnie Wood being such close friends with Dylan that he would come out and play "Seven Days" or something else with Bob.

This year I am keeping my eyes and ears open and I hope to get into the surprise gig for the Rolling Stones this year.

  10. insult?? pfft. you know you're a shit disturber. you highlighted my admiration of that generally resented quality.

you go from pointing out a mistake (which i'd expect from you) to actually attacking my character. sorry to make you insecure enough to actually lash out.

anyhow...timmyB - i say that. i've been out to my fair share of live music since i've been in town i guess. caught 2 nights of JSB, a bit of brick house, a Mr. Something Something show, and a bunch of jazzfest (frisell, snakecharmer, sekoya, sharon jones, the kenaskis experiment, gangbe brass band, mattias lupre group, zubot and dawson, glads of local schmoes that bored the hell out of me and a few acts i don't remember the names of...oh yeah and the stephen fisk trio...good times). so actually i was wrong when it gets put out again...i guess i HAVE been to see some shows, but it's not so much a focus for my entertainment. it's more secondary lately. i'm not as stoked to go out as much as i'm glad to treat myself.

I just wind up going out rather than making a point to hit shows.

i'm presuming the vancouver update suggestion was wholly sarcastic (no...del? sarcastic??) so you probably won't be getting any of those anytime soon.

if you're curious, post me up in a PT or email and i'll drop a line when i can.

(thanks for the heads up bri)

    Okay now that makes sense.

  11. HAHAHA! well i'm glad that you're keeping well, Del. here i am never having regular access to the internet, quickly checking the board...i'm glad you're still an asshole. somebody's gotta be and you're the only one that can actually do it well around here.

i'd hit up the vancouver updates if i actually got out to shows. i don't so much and to be honest, i don't miss it one bit. i live 4 blocks from the beach, just a bit more to beautiful stanley park, I can walk everywhere and have been enjoying working - finally!!

i just threw the post up as soon as i caught the not-so-rumour. thanks again for reminding me of how incredibly stupid and myopic i am and biting into what little self worth i'm trying to keep ahold of.

glad you haven't given yourself a hotfoot yet this week. glad to be keeping you cool.

Let me get this right, you don't miss shows?

    Who says that?

  12. Hard to believe that it has already been fifteen years since Brent passed on. May you rest in peace Brent.

  13. Happy 62nd Birthday Mick,

May you have many, many more in health and happiness.

And I hope you enjoy the day in Toronto.

  14. I just saw Dylan last night in Calgary. He opened with Maggie's Farm. Good stuff.

    Nice.

Bob Dylan Sunday shows have generally been the best shows of the year, setlist wise. And the Calgary show you attended yesterday looks like no exception.

  15. I used to have this Newport performance on vinyl bootleg. It was absolutely crackling with energy, especially Bloomfield's guitar playing. Awesome.

Little Steven devoted his program to the 40-year anniversary of "Like A Rolling Stone" last night. What fun!

Damn, I wished I listened to that Underground Garage episode! Little Steven Van Zandt rocks with the E Street Band, on the Sopranos and as a DJ.

  16. I just got my Farm Aid tickets today! I'll now always remember that, thanks.

I often thought about what could have been with Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young if they could have kept it together for a few years and released at least three or four studio albums in a row together?

If you look at the solo album and side project album output of those four musicians from 1971-1976 they could of ruled the early seventies as a group. Hell even though they only released one studio album as CSN, one as CSNY, one live album and a greatest hits package from 1969 to 1974 they are still one of the biggest groups of that era or any era.

  17. I just picked up tickets to see the 20th anniversary of Farm Aid at the Tweeter Center in Tinley Park, Ill. on Sunday September 18, 2005.

I got my tickets early as I am a member of the FarmYard, though I don't know where my tickets are at yet they are somewhere between Section 101 and 105.

    Willie Nelson

    Neil Young

    John Mellencamp

    Dave Matthews

    Buddy Guy

    Wilco

    Susan Tedeschi

    Los Lonely Boys

    Kenny Chesney

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on July 30 at 10 a.m. CDT and are available at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Tweeter Center box office, charge by phone in Chicago at (312) 559-1212, or online at www.ticketmaster.com.
