  1. I really wanted to make it to the party but I was still soundchecking! Had time to run home and change, and then the bus picked me up in the middle of Main Street, and it was rammed full.

By the way, awesome night! Couldn't have gone better for us really. And now I'm off to eat breakfast before heading to Kingston. Thanks Laurie, Marc, Steve, Sarah, Tim, and everybody else who came....you all rule.

And I'll see the rest of you skanks on the road!

  2. I work in a guitar store and - maybe Dave has a different opinion here but - without a doubt, Sweet Child O Mine is the new Stairway. I hear it at least 4 or 5 times a week...and most of them don't stop at one time, they'll just keep hammering through it. Warts and all. Shitty nasal tone.

Funny that this post got bumped this week, as the new Slash Les Pauls were just introduced. Sweet Child O' Mine is now my most hated song of all time.

  3. Sorry c-towns and any others interested...perhaps this wasn't the best idea given that I didn't know how the entry would work, but when I realized I couldn't go I e-mailed them and told them to give my slots to someone else. I figured that was better than just not showing up, and then the rightful next person on the list would get into the taping. Once again, I fail.

  4. MarcO is going to leave the house? Good gravy, hell hath frozen over. Looking forward to seeing you cats.

    Deeps you rule.

Hey, two new reasons to come to the Sock Hop:

    - My new pedal steel arrived today and it's fucking sweet as all holy hell. A Carter Pro S10DB, 4 pedals, 5 knee bars, rosewood apron and plank maple top. Goldstein, meet the Big Time; BT this is Goldstein.

    - A third Goldstein band added to the bill: The Midnight Shift, which is me on guitar/vocals, Adam Melnick on bass and Sean Burak on drums playing nothing but Buddy Holly tunes.

God damn I have a busy week of rehearsals, but then I get to go on tour so woo hoo!

  5. Montreal date added, tell your friends!

Fri Apr 4 - Hamilton, ON - Pepper Jack's [w Surly Young Bucks]

Sat Apr 5 - Kingston, ON - Andrew's Place [ask for details]

Sun Apr 6 - Montreal, QC - Zoobizarre [w Throw Me The Statue]

Tue Apr 8 - Charlottetown, PEI - Baba's Lounge [w Cashmere Disciples, Ted Simmonds]

Wed Apr 9 - Halifax, NS - Seahorse Tavern [w The Faceplants, Silvergun]

Thu Apr 10 - Moncton, NB - Paramount Lounge [w Construction & Destruction feat. Shotgun Jimmie]

Fri Apr 11 - Fredericton, NB - Capital Bar

Sat Apr 12 - Ottawa, ON - Cafe Dekcuf [w The Spades]

Sock Hop is a week tomorrow, come on out!

  6. Ok so perhaps Priceline IS the ticket.

What do you guys think, if I book one room, and the fine print clearly stipulates that each room accomodates two adults, will the hotel take exception to us cramming four musicians in there?

    We're hardly adults after all...

  7. Bumpin it up because this is less than two weeks away!

Also Dan's record Stars & Satellites has been digitally re-released at MyMerchTable.com - Here's the link. It's selling at an incredibly inexpensive $6.

    Tracklist:

    1. Summertime

    2. She’s A Drug

    3. Stars And Satellites

    4. Whiskey And Wine

    5. East Coast

    6. Dear Serena

    7. You’ll Be Alright

    8. The Kings

Hope to see you all at the Sock Hop or somewhere down the road!

  8. Rather than the Spades backing Dan, Dan will be bringing his full backing band The Regrets (of which I'm also a part). We'll be returning from a short East Coast tour so we'll probably be stinky and sweaty...but our chops will be up! Looking forward to meeting you Ottawa skanks.

  9. It's a shame your Moncton show is head-to-head with Buck 65's cd release, but I'll try to make it to both and say hello. Shotgun Jimmie is a hoot!

Oh man, that IS an unfortunate conflict...shit.

this is bullcrap. fuckin' 3 exams on the 14, 15 and 16th. What say you jambands? does one go on this tour and jeopardize finals?

It'll be awful lonely on stage without you buddy...and I'll have to play a lot more guitar to cover your parts. But you gotta do what you gotta do, and Brad's right, there will be other tours.

  10. Indeed, but that date has unfortunately fallen through. The Spades will still be playing though, but I won't be there.

I should mention that we're still looking for a show the night of the 12th...we'll play anywhere between Fredericton and Ottawa. Anybody who knows anybody out there - or who's out there themselves - and has any suggestions, please let me know.

  11. Happy to announce that Dan Griffin & The Regrets (incl. me on pedal steel and guitar) will be heading East for a run of dates:

Fri Apr 4 - Pepper Jack's - Hamilton, ON w Surly Young Bucks

    Sat Apr 5 - Andrew's place - Kingston, ON

Sun Apr 6 - Zoobizarre - Montreal, QC

    Tue Apr 8 - Baba's - Charlottetown, PEI

Wed Apr 9 - Seahorse Tavern - Halifax, NS

Thu Apr 10 - Paramount Lounge - Moncton, NB w Construction & Destruction feat. Shotgun Jimmie

Fri Apr 11 - Capital Bar - Fredericton, NB w Construction & Destruction, Shotgun Jimmie

Sat Apr 12 - Cafe Dekcuf - Ottawa, ON w The Spades

The Pepper Jack's tour launch show is being dubbed 'Sock Hop 1958' - that means we're hoping everybody will dress for an old school sock hop. We're bringing the Surly Young Bucks out of retirement for this show and we'll be playing all the hits as well as a whole bunch of 50's favourites for your dancing pleasure. DJ Top Down aka Mike Long will also be spinning 50's dance hits in between acts. We'll have shirts to sell for the first time and a new pressing of Dan's record Stars and Satellites - it's a super shoestring tour so we'd really appreciate your support on this night!
