  1. Man this is clearly a hoax, my first clue being that it's dated tomorrow. The wording is strangely similar to that article about 6 months back about Rick Moranis being hit by a train and dying...that lasted about 12 hours on the internet.

If this supposed news source has the story about this death, why nothing on a big-time site like, say, allhiphop.com? Today's story on that site is about ODB, but not about his death; rather about him denying allegations of drug abuse.

EDIT: Uh, I should rephrase what I just said. The story on allhiphop.com is dated 11/13/2003, so it's possible it's been a year since it was updated.

  2. Some of you know that I host a radio show on McMaster Campus radio. Inside the station, they have an enormous music library comprised of over 8000 vinyl titles and over 25000 CD titles. Mammoth. I was looking for moe. titles to choose something to spin on Friday (was going to spin an old show but didn't have anything of good enough quality), and the library has copies of assorted moe. records, No Doy, Dither etc. Then I come across this disc that is just called Meat, with one track, Meat, 46 minutes. Now I'm familiar with Meat from moe.'s live show, I don't own Loaf but I understand there's a version of Meat on that record. I found this Meat disc in the moe. discography, and it's intriguing to me. Unfortunately everything in the music library has to stay in the station and they're pretty serious about that, so the only way I'll get to hear it is if I go in there and spin it in the library for 45 minutes. I would spin it on my show but I don't think an intense jam like that can be considered 'roots rock'. Has anybody heard that 45 minutes version? Anything special, or a self-indulgent alt-prog epic gone bad? I'm interested in peoples' opinions.

  3. No I didn't misinterpret the 'thick' comment, I just meant, there weren't more than like 30 or 35 people in the whole bar at the end of the Contact set, and if there were so many of us from the forum, it's just funny that we didn't get it together. Anyway, no worries. There will be other shows.

Secondtube I'll look out for you. I'll be with at least one of my housemates, a taller guy who had shoulder-length blond hair when I last saw him this morning, but he was on his way to the barber to sell out like a sucker so who knows what he'll look like tonight :D. Also might be with various other shady characters known as Chips and Rocky. If you hear those names being tossed around, I'm the long haired freaky one. Cheers.

p.s. you're right about that bass, though, thick! I really enjoyed their sets, too bad I had to work this morning or I would have stayed right till the end. I left somewhere in the middle of the second.

  4. Raisinhill is just fu©king awesome. thumpin' good times! its funny that the Rev likened them a bit to Nero, i was thinking that too, with a helping of Slip to go along with it. a great sound from these guys, grabbed the disc and cant wait to hear it, and would really love to see them up here again soon.

Guigsy the place wasn't that full last night man! Too bad we didn't figure out the meeting thing. If you're coming out again tonight and you recognize me, introduce yourself. I wear glasses and I have long brown curly hair in a ponytail. If I had to guess, I'd say I'll be wearing jeans and either some sort of plaid lumberjack buttondown shirt or maybe a hoodie.

Secondtube are you coming out tonight too?

  5. First of all: Good set from Contact. I miss seeing these guys. I really felt how the drummer conducts their whole vibe tonight. Could've used more PA on his jungle snare but aside from that, great set.

Raisinhill was QUITE awesome, like a rootsier Nero. Drummer was a little heavy-handed at times but all told they were great. Hope to see them up here again soon.

Esau I knew I was looking for a guy covered in tats and I only caught you on my way out, but nice meeting you. I was sober because I'm working tomorrow and volunteered to be DD but that will not be the case tomorrow night, so we will party. Cheers.

  6. i SOOOOOO wish i was there for that paisley!!!! but instead i was up north.... but man, what a night to be up north! i bet that was amazing! (was joel on the kit?)

nope, had a smokin drummer I've never seen before... except for Colin, the whole band were pretty rare to see playing out (recognized a few of them but they more play in jazz bands etc. usually)

I am also seriously regretting missing that show. Just to put my mind at ease, they were on and off early, right?

  7. While many artists of his generation have turned into parodies of themselves, Neil Young continues to be relevant...keep on rockin' Neil & Happy Birthday!

Indeed! Laugh if you must but I think Greendale is a great record with a great concept. Many happy returns, Uncle Neil.

  8. Touche Velvet.

Re: Jaimoe, gimmicky is exactly what these shows are, thank you. There was something about these Classic Albums Live things that irked me, and that's exactly what it is.

I'll say this, though. I haven't see one of these shows yet (when I was living in Toronto, it always seems cheaper and better to go see a local, original band), but I would be open to seeing Who's Next, which they did last year, or the night where they did Rubber Soul and Revolver. Those are records that I can appreciate on the vinyl or plastic just as much as I can appreciate the live performance (not that there is any Rubber Soul or Revolver material that was ever performed live...but I digress...). In the past I know Mike Daley was involved with a few of these dealies, specifically the Beatles ones (they did the White Album last year too). Hamiltonians will recognize his name as a guy who used to play with the Eggmen years ago, and has gigged around town solo and as Mike Daley and Friends. Also taught popular music at Mac. He's an awesome performer and worth catching.

As for this Dead silliness, it's clearly an aim at bilking mild-to-moderate Q107 listeners slash Dead fans out of 15 bucks, when I bet 99% of them don't know that they can go out and catch Caution Jam and have a wicked good time and probably hear the tunes played better anyway!

  9. Esau I don't think we've met. I frequented the Toronto scene for a while and made frequent trips to the Hammer, but just moved here in Sept to go back to school. If I see you I'll say hello. I'm about 5"11 with glasses and long brown curly hair that will probably be tied back if I'm any degree of sober, say hello if you recognize me.

As for the bands, I don't know if either of you have Cosmic Charlie in your repetoire (I may have seen CJ do it once a long time ago? Never seen RG though) but I would love to hear a sweet sliderrific rendition of that tune...too many GD shows don't have that delicious slide element, DSO does it real well though from what I've heard. Anyway either way I'm sure it will be a blast.

  10. Ok so lunch today was KD Sharp Cheddar (the sharp cheddar aspect was alright, nothing special...), with a can of baked beans and - get this - Club House Taco seasoning. This stuff comes in a pouch, it's good for adding a kick to flavourless TVP among other stuff...I had it so I figured I would toss it in. Excellent choice, very tasty. I would recommend it. Don't know if I can handle KD twice in one week, but next week I'm going to try this formula with the KD White Cheddar. I know you are all on the edge of your collective seat, and I will keep you posted :D.

  11. Also a huge Police fan. A serious gateway to reggae. Did anybody catch Copeland on the Oysterhead tour? Caught them at Massey Hall when they came through; I think it's one of my top five shows. And I'm a moderate Phish fan, but the project was so heavy on the Claypool influence, and with Copeland on drums they were unstoppable. Would love to see another record and tour from those guys.

But oh yeah...Cream! Awesome. Even if they don't book a tour, this week at Albert Hall has DVD written all over it. We'll see if Baker and Bruce can still hold their own. Despite Clapton's Ad Com leanings in the past 15 years, he can still tear it up, as anybody who has seen him live recently can attest. Yeah, the tickets cost too much, but what are you going to do...

  12. I'm also in, with my housemates and various girlfriends and stragglers in tow. We love the Contact and are looking forward to seeing Raisinhill. Also it's my housemate Chips' birthday (that's right, like the tv show) so we'll be getting him nice and loaded. He's probably the biggest Contact fan among us and will be having quite the time. See everybody there.
