  1. Definitely a stellar time.. fun dancing with all the tots around (and yes, I said TOTS!). Very cool that everybody was respectful of the kids, my daughter didn't want to go home (and me niether).

Every visit was great, but that one all-night jam with all the singers and the bassist going was amazing! The rising sun finally tore me out of that trance.

    .. still sore from dancing.

Cheers to you all... hopefully see you at CTMF.

  2. Well, survived my first couple of shows...

If anybody is interested in checking us out, come-on by, the support would be great!

We are playing next Friday at the El Mocombo, it's charity thing so bring a can or two of food. We are not really sure about this night, they have 7 bands scheduled (about a half hour each), but we are the last to go on and will have a long set, think we are going on at 12ish.

Here is our site, and other dates are listed too... hope to see some of you there. Again, we are not the caliber that this fan base is used to, but we have a lot of fun doing it.

    Kev.

  3. ..looked up into the crowd. HOLY SHIT, THERES AWHACK OF PEOPL HERE, I thought. Head down and dont look up again!

Haaaa! Just described my performance... I think the drummer thinks I like him because I was facing him so much.

  4. I just played for my first time EVER live with a band at the Cameron House in Toronto, and to a full capacity crowd none the less (about 70 people). WHAT A RUSH! I was terrified the entire time, but survived.

Two months ago if you told me that I would ever be playing in front of a crowd, I would have laughed, then kicked you in the teeth a couple times. But I decided to try taking my stagnating pseudo-hobby and really try to finally improve on it. Those of you I have jammed with before know that I pretty much suck on the bass, but I have worked a ton on it over the past couple of months, hooked up with a band, and well, don’t suck quite as bad as before.

We are definitely not to the caliber that everybody on this site is used to seeing, but it’s cool being able to play all originals. And it is VERY cool being on the other side of the stage… I am addicted already. I have a ton to learn, but the learning has now become fun rather than just tedious. We already have gigs setup for June and July, and we are going on a photo shoot in the badlands this weekend for Christ sake!

This has been such an adrenaline rush for me, I feel like I am constantly on 5 cups of coffee, and I have overcome one of my final fears in life. Just hope I stick with it.

  5. Well, think I am getting close here. I have been trying out alot of gear, and found some used gear at Songbird that I really like.

Its an old Traynor tube head, combined with a David Eden 4x10 700w cabinet. The sound and tone is beautiful. I have it on hold right now, but I think that this is what I may be going with. Just checking out a few others in the mean time.

  6. Thanks for the info folks, I've had to do alot of learning all around in this area lately.

I am going to read these over in detail and try-out the gear in the stores. But basically what I decided to do for the next couple of months is just rent when I have to, and take my time on deciding what sound and set-up I like before buying.

A compressor is definitely on my list.

    Thanks again!

  7. I talked with somebody from Acoustiguard today, and yeah, it sounds futile to attempt anything than isn't going to cost some money. He said to look into my ceilling because if it's hollow and not insulated, it doesn't matter what he puts on top of it. I would first have to get that insulated. So basically, I think I have to wait a bit and see if this is going to be a permanent thing, and determine if I want to invest in doing this.

I am going to check out their facility tomorrow to see what materials they have, how much they cost, and determine if I can do it myself (with help of course because I am a do-it-yourself spaz).

He said he just finished a recroom for the drummer from the Spoons, with separate rooms for guitar, bass and drums. It costed about $10,000.

Hmmm... maybe I'll just poison all of my neighbours with a toxin that attacks the hearing... sounds like that would be alot less trouble.

  8. A while back I remember somebody asking about sound proofing their recroom for music playing... and there were several suggestions made. I have done some looking into it, and realize that unless you want to spend a pile of money and basically renovate your recroom, it is pretty tough to accomplish.

However, (I can't remember who it was), did you try anything and did it work?

One thing I am thinking of is placing hooks all around the room, then buying quilited fabrics made for sound proofing all around the room. I would probably have to treat the cielling somehow as well, just not sure on that one yet. I wouldn't have a problem installing something on the ceilling, I just don't want ot have to renovate the rest of the room. I am hoping that a couple of layers of these sound proofing curtains will work.

I obviously don't expect to fully sound proof, but I am hoping to dampen the sound enough to not be getting visits by the police.
