  1. I'm on the mailing list for a Toronto band called The Henrys. The latest email is about this tour that I thought some of ya'll might be interested in seeing:

On a Henrys-related matter, there's a tour pending that could very well be coming to a Canadian province near you, if not a city or town, or even, like, Nanton, Alberta, if you happen to live within the Nanton purlieus. We're bringin' it to the people! The tour is called "Slide, Squeeze, Strum" and features three guys who have discs out on the same label (Black Hen Music).

One guy is Steve Dawson, a fabulous picker and co-leader of the estimable Zubot and Dawson.

One guy is Geoff Berner, who writes great songs and plays the accordion (some call it the Stomach Steinway).

One guy is Don Rooke, about whom you're given info on a(n ir)regular basis. The relevant CD in his case is Atlas Travel.

    So here's the scoop:

Slide Squeeze and Strum - Attack of The Black Hens!

Featuring Geoff Berner, Don Rooke and Steve Dawson

April 23 - Vancouver, BC - St. James Community Square

    April 24 - Lethbridge, AB - Wolf's Den

    April 25 - Calgary, AB - Ironwood

April 26 - Nanton, AB - Auditorium Hotel

    April 27 - Edmonton, AB - Sidetrack

April 28 - Saskatoon, SK - The Basement

April 30 - Fredericton, NB - James Joyce Pub

    May 1 - Halifax, NS - Ginger's

May 2 - Tantallon, NS - Two Gulls

    May 5 - Kingston, ON - Scherzo

    May 6 - Toronto, ON - Hugh's Room

May 8 - Wakefield, QC - Black Sheep

There might be a London ON gig in there, if we can talk somebody into it, which'd be on May 4 or 7. And for the curious, there's more info about this fabulous embarkation to be found in two places:

  2. Nice work on the new message board Bouche, its looking FAB! A little intimidating at first but I'm getting the hang of it now. And a BIG HUGE THANKS for that Jammy's disc you sent! I popped it in last night and had my jaw to the floor watching Derek Trucks trading licks with Robert Randolph! Cheers Bouche!

  3. Thought some of ya might need a little reminder about these shows:

For two nights in a row, Sisters Euclid (featuring madman guitarist Kevin Breit) will join the Toronto Tabla Ensemble at the Harbourfront Centre Theatre. The shows will be 110 minutes, with a 20 minute intermission. 8pm.

    Friday April 2nd & Saturday April 3rd.

Tickets $22-$25, available at the Harbourfront Centre website.

If anyone checks this out, please fill us in on the details!

  4. DownTown's right, the Peterborough CD release last Friday was really good. They sounded a lot more together than they do for the weekly MoHo gigs - better sound at the Gordon Best too though. THey played the entire new album (18 songs?) during the first set, then oldies for the 2nd set. There were seafood platters being served, including the best mussels I've ever experienced. The new CD is KILLER!!!!!!!

  5. Hey Josh, twas a nice surprise seeing you and Holly in Peterborough a few weeks back.. Any Boyce's Road Blues Explosion shows this Summer? I'll be up in Lake Of Bays at some point I am sure.. Hey if you see any of the Princes or Butlers around, please tell 'em I say hello. Cheers!

  6. Nice, with a few naughty marks. Neatness needs improvement. Behavior has been good sometimes, not so good other times. Manners could still use some attention. Was very nice last Monday.

Last Monday was the Karl Denson's show in Rochester (which was indeed nice).

  7. Remember the Would-Be Traveler's Promenade? I saw them a few times in Hamilton a few years ago and was very intrigued. I'm guessing that they all went their separate ways though.. Anyone know? Last time I heard that name mentioned was just a few weeks ago on here, when one of the BNB dudes posted about a one-off show going on in Toronto with some of their former members.

I thought Jazz Pharmacy from Montreal were pretty cool too. It wasn't the dancy-est of music but very experimental and spacey.. I liked.

Hey Greg, Moses Mayes & The Funk Family Orchestra broke up at the end of June.. Too bad eh? Actually they did get back together for one final show -- they opened for James Brown in Winnipeg in the Summer! Besides that though, they're done. (CLICK HERE)

  8. I liked it. I think that its a sweet song. I laughed when Trey's voice gave out. I've been humming this tune to myself all night and morning (yes, I was up all night.. writing one last 15-pager for school!) I can't wait to see these hosers again in concert! [big Grin]

I still can't believe the whole Winter tour sold out right away! HOly sheeeet! I was hoping to go to Cincy but we'll have to see what happens now.

ps - hey, new avator, member number, number of posts, and deja vu roadie status! i needed a change. [smile]
