This is hilarious: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1004061iggypop1.html

I didn't think there was a Wolof either, but a friend was convinced it was played. I think there was a Mudslide tease in Fuji or Paper Birds too.

Last night's show in Halifax was great. The setlist was something like this:
Soft Machine
Even Rats
Airplane/Primitive
I Hate Love
Get Me With Fuji
Paper Birds
Children of December
Encore: If One of Us Should Fall
(What's So Funny 'bout) Peace Love and Understanding

Cozy up to everyone you know who plays in a band and try to get some opening slots. That way you'll get some of the other band's crowd, you can play a short set of your best material, and because opening sets are earlier, people might still be sober enough to remember your band's name the next day. And you can start boozing when you finish and check out the other band. I second the name change idea too. Sorry dude, but Auto Groove Mechanics doesn't grab my attention. The tunes sound pretty good though, especially U Do Me U. If you've got more songs as good as that one then I'm sure word will spread.

He's playing with Brooke Miller in Halifax -- she's also worth checking out. I'm going to try and catch them before heading to The Slip on Saturday.

He was on the Daily Show a while ago making jokes about the Crocodile Hunter and Peter MacKay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yjDgmeXQPo Apparently he just released a sketch comedy CD.

I'll be there too. And at Sunseeker this weekend and Stanfest the weekend after that. It's fixin' to be a good summer.

That map kind of puts it into perspective. There are not too many countries that are "Grey".
I'm not sure what you mean...
States that have tested a nuclear weapon: 7
Suspected nuclear states: 2
States suspected of having clandestine nuclear programs: 1
States formerly possessing nuclear weapons: 4
States formerly possessing nuclear programs: 15
Other nuclear-capable states: 7 (some of these are counted as having former programs as well)
Number of recognized states in the world: 192
It still seems to me to be a handful of states that perpetuate our fear of thermo-nuclear armageddon. If anything you might make a correlation between a state's nuclear capability and it's landmass.

Cool interview. I liked what he had to say about music videos. I love that album too, easily as good as the best Pink Floyd albums. Gilmour is a guitar god, but Jeff Beck's playing over Water's songs makes Gilmour seem uninspired in comparison.

I've definately seen the fear-mongering affect people I know. I went to Ghana recently and my ma was convinced I was going to get bird flu. I find this reaction crazy and it bothers me that people spend time worrying about the hyped-up fantastical possibilities instead of the real issues that make for less sexy headlines.
From September to May, I follow the news daily, mostly in newspapers and maybe 15-20min of TV. It can be depressing, but mostly it gets me angry and gets me active. In the summertime I avoid all media as much as possible and stick exclusively to reading books. It's a therapeutic break from the problems of the world at large.

Stoner moment of the day so far:
I got up at 6am this morning to cram for a 9am exam. Turns out it's actually at 1:30pm.
-
I'm way ahead of you on the 420 celebrations.
-
I'm headed to the Montreal for the weekend and didn't have much time to make plans. I have my evenings free so far. Anyone know of any good shows happening Friday or Saturday night?
-
For the past three months, at least half the time I've thrown music on it's been Tom Waits.

For me in NS it's:
Hu Noo
Slowcoaster
Heavy Meadows

If I were an Iranian government, I would want nukes too. Invading middle-eastern Muslim countries who happen to have lots of oil seems to be all the rage these days, so a couple of nukes aimed at Israel makes for a handy deterrent, especially when the US is mulling over the possibility of dropping a few on Iranian soil. It may well be the only way they can avoid getting nuked at this point; who knows what rolls around in Georgie's mind? I wouldn't be surprised if the decision has already been made. I'm a "no nukes is good nukes" kind of guy, but I can understand the Iranian's position. Why should the US be the world's police in terms of who gets nukes anyway? They've displayed more will to actually use them than any other country. Perhaps they should lead by example and disarm themselves.

Yeah Jay, it's Al Fraser. I transfered all the DAT recordings the first year.

I remember this show well, my first of many with the Caution Clowns. If you want to update the source info Willy; this show was recorded directly from soundboard to the band's Sony Hi-MD. I know because I was involved in taping the whole festival to DAT and this set didn't get recorded on the DAT as the line out was switched to their minidisc. I think it was Eric who owned the minidisc so he likely did the transfer, but I'm not sure about that. Great show, even without Bruce on keys.

Holy Maynard's Dick!! Those are some pricey tickets!

Here's another one for you Jay:

This thing is great. I've got a Slip + Medeski channel that's playing some good stuff I've never heard of.
