I've never voted Liberal, but having lived under Liberal governments, I feel "genuine renewal" is exactly what they need... Frank McKenna is not the man for the job.
As for Bradm's question; an MP or PM doesn't need a lot of political experience to get my vote -- any kind of leadership experience will do, whether it be in big business or social justice organizations or whatever. At this point I just want a representative thats more interested in getting things done than getting re-elected -- this past election was such a pathetic display of mudslinging and fearmongering by all the major parties.

A couple weeks ago I got stuck with nothing to read before a flight and the selection of English books in the Portugese airport was pretty slim, so I ended up getting the "DaVinci Code". I just have a few pages left, but it basically reads like a slick hollywood movie or an idiot's guide to the whole "bloodline of Jesus" thing.
Before that I read "The Rebel Sell: Why the Culture can't be Jammed" by a couple of Canadian philosophy professors named Potter and Heath. Kind of a criticism of left-wing activism written by left-wing activists.
I also read that Bidini book recently and enjoyed it. I want to check out "For Those About to Rock."

Ha, so true -- though the Christian drivers in Ghana have the same attitude. If you hop a bus or a mini-bus between towns, the driver usually leads everyone in a prayer before you get going. If the driver is Christian there is often part of the prayer where he starts asking for the bus to be "soaked in the blood of Jesus," which is really bizarre the first time you hear it.

Saudi Crown Prince Sultan Bin Abdel Aziz offered his condolences in a statement on Saudi Al-Ekhbariya television.
"We feel pain and sorrow for them and for their families and we send our condolences," the prince said.
He said the kingdom "spared no effort" to avoid such disasters at the hajj.
But he said it "cannot stop what God has preordained. It is impossible."
Then why bother with things like "effort", I always wonder?
I spent the past three and half months living in a mostly Muslim community in northern Ghana. People there, Muslims and Christians alike, often make comments about things being God's will -- similar to the quote above. They would argue that although God decides what one's fate holds, one can still make an "effort" to live a good life. One's efforts will be rewarded when God decides one's fate.

Another solo acoustic guitar player worth checking out is Ryan Leblanc from New Brunswick.

Thanks for this -- sounds great.

Jaimoe is right, the world needs more Clash covers. Also more Hendrix covers, no one plays Hendrix anymore.
Here's a few favorites I've covered in various bands and loved to play:
Third Stone from the Sun -- Hendrix
Deal -- GD
Soulglue -- Rheostatics
Funky Monks by RHCP's done bluegrass style
Paint it Black done very loud and heavy -- Stones
Face Pollution -- Soundgarden
Muffin Man -- Zappa
Stash by Phish done as an instrumental fast swing tune
And Bradm, I've heard a great Tina Turner cover of Whole Lotta Love, and I've got an old recording of NS band Hu Noo covering No Quarter. oh, and Tool does a good No Quarter cover too.

Show of the year:

You rock. My cd collection is already fat with great shows you've taped. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this one sees the light of day.
-
Hey Bradm, any chance of you taping this event? Some of us Nero fans in far-flung corners of the world would love to here what Dave's playing these days. Wish I could be there.

I don't know if he wrote for the Guthries, but I think Gabe from the Guthries is in El Torpedo.

The nature of the festival setting is that bands cannot really do encores because of tight timeslots.
Then why did The Trews get an encore?
Nobody is complaining about the quality of The Slip's performance' date=' but 70 minutes for the headliner with no encore so a shitty DJ can get on stage is ridiculous... What's an extra 10 minutes?[/quote']
I've got recordings of both the Slip and the Trews from Evolve last year. The Slip's set is a few seconds shy of being 80 minutes long, and that's with some of their downtime on stage omitted. The Trews didn't play as long as the Slip did. I should have torrents of those shows up on bt.etree sometime next week.

Anyone care to share this Frontier Town story for those who weren't there?
-
Thanks for the offer, that's quite a list you've got there. I'm afraid I've got nothing to offer you though, I've only got a handful of shows and you've already got them. Do you have 99-11-11 by any chance? It was my one and only attended Dylan show and it'd be nice to have a copy.
-
Got it working. Some nice Dylan torrents up there right now.

Has anyone tried a torrent from the new site? I keep getting a problem connecting to tracker message (7 getaddrinfo failed). Is this just an issue with getting the new site going or do I have to do something different to connect?
-
Don't let the man keep you down... EZT is back at a new address: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-browse.php

I was under the impression that although EZT was pretty good at removing officially released commercial material, they had the policy that any band who didn't permit taping/trading was allowed on EZT. Bands that did permit taping/trading had any conditions respected (such as no video). As for antivirus/firewall, does anyone have any recommendations for free programs of this nature? I'm currently using Avast, Adaware, and the WinXP firewall.
Dog Names?

A couple of the veternarian students at my school told me the other day that dogs respond best to names and commands with the letter 's' in them. That said, if I were to get a dog today I think I'd name him Trigger.
