  2. anyone catch the besnard lakes?

    one of my highlights. :)

fwiw, in the few days following the festival every year, I can never remember what I liked until someone asks did you like X? and then I realize, yeah, I loved them!

    my feet hurt. a lot.

  3. all in all, i didnt see anything i didnt like... didnt have to, if there was something that wasnt getting my attention, i'd easily find something that did.

nicely put. really nice review. :D

i can only imagine the looks on Shout Out's faces when they realized ... "What?! I thot you had it!" ... oops. ;) Worked out fine, tho' and nobody was disappointed with the snafu. I've never seen so many people dancing on the tables in that tent before. Intense is a major understatement.

  4. so? ... thoughts? or, are y'all still passed out in your tents?

Ani rocked, and Ron Sexsmith put on a great show too. The Slip was really fun (although they were disappointed with their set, Marc said afterwards) and they had a great time playing in their workshop with others (which they enjoyed much more) and people really enjoyed it.

Some food portions are getting chintzy, though.

  5. let's hope that asshole from the enwave show isn't there...

i dont want to be the defender of assholedom here, but in the scheme of things, this guy wasnt that bad and his antics seem to have taken on mythical proportions.

sure, he got there late. was drunk. rustled about until he got into his seat, but then only called out two or three times after that. in total, there were at least 10 others who called out something or other. i actually think the woman who (very politely) asked ryan to turn up the lights early in the show turned him off more. the room had a very uncomfortable funeral/church-like tension that didnt need to be there and ryan adams did nothing to lighten the mood. personally, I dont blame the guy, or anyone else, who called out anything. it was a rock concert afterall, not a memorial service.

all that said, i did love the show. but let's be honest ... ryan adams is simply going to have to deal with people calling out 'sylvia plath' at massey hall because it's going to happen.

  6. I'll be there for the whole weekend - archiving it.

Im especially looking forward to Martin Sexton tonight and Ronny Sexsmith and Ani Difranco on Sunday. But as Ive said before, the best thing about Hillside is stumbling upon an unknown artist and being blown away.

    And the food too. :D

  7. I'm sure Feist would put on an excellent show. The reviews from her recent Massey Hall gig were positive.

Feist is ... in a word ... boring live. That's not to say she isn't a great singer songwriter - she is. Personally, I think she has one of the nicest voices I have ever heard. She gets regular rotation at my place. It's just that her music doesn't tranlaste very well in a live "performance".

  8. Stings voice is in top-form. Really blew me away again.

i thot that too, so I couldnt understand why he dropped an octave on a few tunes. it wasnt like he couldnt hit the high notes, because he did on other tunes.

overall, a solid 8 1/2 for me. invisible sun was the highlight for me. i dig dark police. im really glad i went, even if we did help pay for sting's new gold plated yoga mat.

  9. some might muse at the implication that Phish was the new Dead, just as much as some might laugh at the suggestion that X is the new Phish ... its all relative, and very subjective.

i first saw Phish before they exploded, and naturally compared them to the Dead. kinda the same, but way different. sure, something else may come along that provides us with a similar sort of experience but who knows what form it would take. the Dead and Phish were what they were - whatever that was for you, and you, and him, and her, and them, and us and me. just like the songs themselves, the ride was a personal journey for each of us. Im just glad I had a seat on the bus for a bit.
