in guelph, we have to sort garbage and use three different coloured bags. one grocery chain in town has switched to transparent green bags so we can use them for our compostables. i thought this was pretty cool of them. you also have to pay 5cents for each bag there, which really cuts down on waste, i think.

it all helps.

It reminds me of being in Grade 5 and shelling out 35 cents a piece on pizza day. There's a boner I'll never have again.

this isnt the only weird thing here today

years ago when i was a grad student in a sociology dept that shall remain nameless, a proposition was put on the table to restrict teachings about race, religion and gender because of potential offense to students.

it didnt fly. classes would surely have been pretty boring. but, i was pretty surprised at how many people bought into the idea (or at least said they did, knowing that it wouldnt pass).

perhaps on the surface, a strange band. but i think the organizers may have a plan.

this is how a concert review should be written. its actually about the band, not the reviewer. very nice. thanks for posting it.

Ice groomer can't be charged with drunken driving

NEWARK, N.J. — You can't be charged with drunken driving a Zamboni in New Jersey.

A judge ruled the four-ton ice-cleaning machines isn't a motor vehicle, in part, because it's not useable on a highway and can't carry passengers.

The judge Monday overturned the license revocation and penalties imposed against Zamboni operator John Peragallo last year.

Mr. Peragallo was charged in 2005 with drunken driving after a fellow employee at the Mennen Sports Arena in Morristown told police the machine was speeding and nearly crashed into the boards.

Police said Mr. Peragallo's blood alcohol level was 0.12. Levels of 0.08 are considered legally drunk.

At his trial, the 64-year-old testified he drank beer and vodka on the job after he had groomed the ice.

Mr. Peragallo, who worked for the Morris County park system since 1994, plans to sue his former employer.

to the best of my knowledge, the Hill's Prescription m/d feline food is the ONLY dry food affected, secondtube. no dry dog food has been recalled (unless you consider Jerky Treats to be "dry", and "food", lol).

that said, however, the tainted ingredient is suspected to be wheat gluten (and this is why Hill's took the precautionary step of recalling the m/d, as did DelMonte their Jerky Treats). the FDA has found melamine in the source wheat gluten. so, check your stuff for wheat gluten and perhaps stop feeding that food for a while until the dust settles.

the most troubling aspect is that Hill's only uses higher quality source ingredients suitable for human consumption, so some of the tainted gluten could have gotten into human food as well.
