  1. I use winamp for music. As to the mp3's, I sucked in my gut and fixed all the tags so that they work in any media player. There's a program called ID3Tagit that is great for that. I was able to do almost everything in one day. Oh, I should mention that I have around 52 000 mp3's in the collection so it was no easy task.

Mine are sorted in folders by band and then album. With ID3Tagit you select a folder and can highlight all the songs in it and set their tags at once. Say you have a folder for a band with 5 albums in it, you can select the band folder (with the search subfolders option picked) and then ctrl-a to select all the songs and just put the band name in one box. Press save and all five albums now have the proper band name.

The best feature is that it allows you to convert file names to ID3 tags so if you have a folder with an album in it and the file names are (for example) like this:

    Band Name - 01 - Song name

you can put in - - (there's a legend, it's really easy to use) and it will fill out the tag fields for you.

Once the tags are set it doesn't matter which media player or mp3 player you use, they all work. And if some filenames are bad, you can do the trick above in reverse (ID3 tag -> Filename).

  2. Poor deranger, upgrade the firmware and all your troubles should go away:

    http://ca.creative.com/support/downloads/download.asp?DriverLang=1033&searchString=n200&Image1.x=21&Image1.y=13

I don't have one so that may not be the exact model but it's for the Creative MuVo Micro N200. If that's not your model just find the one that is. I also don't offer any guarantees that this will work but after a search on google and reading some forums, it seemed to work for everyone else.

20 gig iPod so there was only room for Phish (I call it the phishPod)

To thatpatguy: That episode of futurama was on last night. The saddest one of all, poor dog...

  4. My cat bob likes it when you play guitar for him but he doesn't seem to notice music from the stereo. It could be the hand motions but I like to think he's a guitar fan. If I'm back home with my parents and pull out the accoustic he'll come over and sit by me and watch, it's neat. He's an incredibly odd cat though so it might just be him.

  5. Blame the hip-hoppers all you want, they're an easy target.

I don't see any blame laid to a government that spends over $300,000,000,000/year on their military ($400.1 billion last year according the free new mexico newspaper). The last thing I saw this money used for was to steal a country for their oil. Just think, a tiny portion of that money, let's say $20 billion, could probably clean the shit out of the streets. If they decided to spend just half of the defence budget on death one year they could probably find a cure for cancer and aids, etc, with the rest.

Now take a look at drugs. Drugs are most likely the primary reason for a lot of gun violence somehow or other (or the money or addictions that stem from them). Now, take a look at the US stance on drugs: Prohibition. Same here in Canada. If there's no prohibition, there's no illegal cash flow which means there's no money to have the violence over. Why not set up some treatment programs and open up the eyes a bit before grabbing the easiest scapegoat you can find.

Who knows. I think Hip-Hop definately contributes to the violence as it doesn't just talk about it, it glorifies it. I'm talking the gangsta rap here. There are lots of Hip-Hop artists that don't glorify violence (I assume and hope but I don't like it so I don't listen to it and don't know the genre all that well).

My two cents is that governments need to start actually caring for their population and doing something rather than just pushing the blame around.

  6. I haven't seen that sign in ages, do they still have block parents?

I agree with gateaux, even as a kid I thought the idea was wierd. My parents taught me not to talk to strangers and to me that translated into entering a strangers house as well.

The T-Shirt idea sounds great though.

  7. Hey Deeps (it's matt, mike's buddy from penetang),

I tried listening to the song but it wasn't working (maybe too many people downloading at the same time :) ). It tried to stream but it was too choppy to actually listen to. I'm going to try again later tonight. [Edit] Maybe I tried the wrong site, I'll try the other one, thanks MarcO [End Edit]

Personally I love you guys though being up in Ottawa I rarely get a chance to groove with you but it's all good. The NYE show was great and I can't wait until march 10 here in O-Town.

When's the NYE dvd going to be ready? Any chance I can grab a copy if I make it up for the basement jam?

  8. Nice, the blues brothers cafe was the first one my buddy and I hit upon getting to amsterdam for our first time.

I love that town, been there twice and really want to go back.

I still have a lighter from the bulldog that has Amsterdam, Netherlands - British Columbia, Canada or something on those lines on the back (I think there was or maybe still is a bulldog out west???).

One word of advice though, the bulldog, being the most famous cafe, is quite the tourist trap with some of the highest prices I found for shit (at least when I was there). Meet up with some locals and tour, they'll show you the best spots.

Great memories while at work, thanks.

  9. I read an article a couple years ago that was very similar to this. In that one the girl that passed away died from too much water. Two girls ate some vitamin-e for the first time and since they had heard you should drink water, they drank tonnes to the point that the one girl ended up with too much water in her blood and died. I wonder if it was something like that. The article mentioned that this wasn't all that uncommon in e deaths it just doesn't play out in the media that way.

  10. I was a little pre-emptive in this post. I was converting my list to html last night so it could be posted and while I was going through it I noticed that there were a few shows on the list that aren't in the folder they should be. In other words, when I put the music onto my 250gig I must have missed a dvd or two but I can't find them. As you can imagine I went into panic mode (5 phish shows gone, not acceptable) and tore my room apart to no avail.

I'll try and get the list posted tonight. Thanks for the replies and emails, just give me a day or two. I'd love to do some trading, especially if I can trade some Phish for some other bands (anything other than phish or dave/tim which is all I have, but I'll take anything).

  11. Power Producer eh? I had that on the loaner laptop I had for a bit but didn't actually open it. Is it any good?

Also, I had forgotten to mention: Adobe Premiere. I have yet to try and open a file and have premiere say no (except to .asf files which MS says you can't edit and programs seem to agree with them).

Alright, I'll stop suggesting things as you've got it covered, I just really enjoy this stuff. I set up a blue room in an apartment I lived in in London Ontario and it was fun as hell.

  12. my god thatpatguy, I've been searching for the end of the internet for years, how'd you find it?

After having read the article all I can think is man those americans are greedy. There's already a charge for using the pipes so folks would essentially be paying again for what they already pay for (and, of course, wouldn't take the time to actually look into it and hence probably won't notice it in that way). Not to mention the heavy users of the internet are probably 75% or so folks trying to download/stream something or other. I think there'd be some sort of revolt although it's the states so they'll probably just make up some lie, over-glorify it and the americans (by this I mean the americans as a whole, not the few free thinkers) will buy it (litterally). I bet they'll say something on the lines that terrorism will skyrocket if they don't start charging more. I'd be willing to be lots of money here that when they do it they start saying that the companies and countries that don't comply are terrorists or something on those lines. The shitty thing will be if sites like this one get pretty much canned due to not being commercial enough. we'll see.

Who knows. I hope they don't kill the internet but I hope even more that we as canadians don't fall for this shit like the americans will.

  13. hmmm, throwing food back in his car isn't the best idea in the world but I applaud it. At least someone is standing up for the environment. Take a look at the PC's promises and you'll notice that some of the money they intend to spend is coming out of the clean air and kyoto funding not to mention the Bush administration's pretty much flat out ignoring global warming (probably one of the biggest dangers to the world right now and there are probably many other countries taking the same point of view as Bush).

Either way, if you're a man, you don't hit women or children. That just is.

And the moral of the story is: Don't throw your garbage out the window, save it for a trash bin.

  14. haha, the fact that you know tmpgenc and virtualdub means the files probably are real strange if you can't convert them.

Have you tried avisynth? It can make a file from an avi that can be read in tmpgenc. I've used it a couple times for the same reason as you mention it's just a little tough if you don't know what you're doing. If you run avi's through it, it will spit out a file that player's and such think is actually a raw video file (meaning just about anything can play, encode, etc it). I use it mostly to get virtualdub to read vobs (to convert them to divx) but it also works to get tmpgenc to read divx's (or it used to, it's fairly old now).

After that, my friend, I say good luck to you.

  15. I'm wondering if anyone's up for some show trading. I don't have much, about 65 Phish shows, so I'd like to expand my collection as much as possible. Granted, all my shows are from bt.etree.org but it takes a while downloading that way. It'd be nice to get together with some folks and just swap dvd's/cd's.

This post also goes out to anyone who wants to start a little collection. I'll burn all my shows to CD or DVD in either shn, flac or for the iPod owners amongst you, mp3 (with all ID3 tags set).

I'm in Ottawa so if anyone else is from here and interested, let me know. I'd also like to get shows from other bands but I'm incredibly obsessed with Phish so that's pretty much all I have at the moment (aside from some dave and tim, dave and friends and, of course, what the thunder said, wakefest).

    contact !">email me.

    peace,

  16. Here are some guides but this is getting into the realm of more power/more settings/more time rather then the single program click a button way of doing things. You get much more control if you care to learn it all though.
