QuoteJoseph Spence (left) was a Bahamian guitarist and vocalist. Raymond Pinder (right) was Spence’s brother-in-law and fellow vocalist. Folklorist Sam Charters was the first to record Spence on his own back porch in 1958 and an album was released on the Folkways label in 1959.

Picking a song from Postmodern Jukebox is kinda low hanging fruit I suppose (b/c their covers almost always epic imo), but here we go...

Hoping so. I mean it's Scorsese, so my expectations are a bit higher I suppose. I suspect we'll be seeing some updated/upgraded footage from 'Renaldo & Clara' considering the year(s)/tour. Just hope it's not a clip fest or partial remake of it. Regardless, looking forward to see what it is.

For years, rumors have circulated among Bob Dylan fans that a documentary about his legendary, star-studded “Rolling Thunder Revue” tour of 1975-76 was in the works, and occasional whispers had a name attached: Martin Scorsese. Now, the cat can come officially out of the bag. Variety has exclusively learned that Netflix plans to release the movie in 2019, with the director’s name actually in the title: “Rolling Thunder Revue: A Bob Dylan Story by Martin Scorsese.”
The tightly-under-wraps project is said not to be quite as much of a straightforward documentary as Scorsese’s previous Dylan film, 2005’s “No Direction Home: Bob Dylan,” which zeroed in on Dylan’s crucial 1965-66 “going electric” period. “There’s a reason the word ‘story’ appears in the title,” said a source, hinting that the director may be playing with the form more in this particular film.
QuoteNo release date has been set. When Variety asked about a rumor that the film might appear as early as this spring, a source countered that, saying that even the announcement of a premiere date remains “months away.”
One of the few details Netflix did confirm about the movie is that Dylan himself was interviewed for it, which doesn’t necessarily go without saying, since the artist rarely allows himself to be interviewed off-camera, let alone on.

Pretty cool.

QuoteWouldn’t it make a grand 20th anniversary gift for “Mermaid Avenue” if we were to discover that Guthrie did record a version of one of those songs that Wilco and Bragg thought they were the first to set music to, after all?
That’s exactly what’s happened. One reason for reconsidering “Mermaid Avenue” here is that I recently discovered some old tapes of rare Woody Guthrie material while working at the Shel Silverstein Archive. One of the songs happened to be “Hoodoo Voodoo” — an exciting find since until now there weren’t any known performances of Woody doing any “Mermaid Avenue” material. The Woody Guthrie Archive has verified it.

Great stuff. I know I had this as filler on a different Dylan show on VHS in the early/mid nineties and I've only saw the DVD circulating once, years ago - titled "Silver Wilburys" I believe, not sure why that name was used. It got taken down from a semi-private Dylan tracker (now long gone). IIRC, they removed it due to the poor quality of the DVD authoring. The video isn't great, but considering its sourced from VHS, and an on the fly recording for an unannounced Dylan/Harrison/Forgerty performance in 1987? Still pretty cool.
This was first time Forgerty had played any CCR songs in 20+ years, at Dylan's request.

I almost cried watching that cover of Never Been To Spain.
One of my very first cassettes via Columbia House. Part of the free 13 you could pick - The Best Of 3 Dog Night.
I had that one too. I'd have to dig in storage, but there's a chance I still have it. I know I have all the CDs still that never arrived at my house.😇

Cool, have to keep this in mind. I attended a 20th anniversary celebrations put on by Q107. Was just a single day though.
Richie Havens, Melanie, John Sebastian, Canned Heat, Steppenwolf, Sha Na Na, Iron Butterfly, and a Hendrix impersonator opened but I forget his name.He was pretty entertaining though. I'm sure there's a few others I'm forgetting.
Still have my stub too.

I think the only difference will be not having to worry about rollers creepin' up on ya while smoking some herb in the lot. They'll probably focus more of enforcing smoking by-laws inside the show to make up for it though.
