  1. ..aah yeah, she is kinda intimidating, eh Ollie. Apparently the co-owner, her husband Bruce Myles, was on the original 67s and was considered the best fighter in the league. I'm sure the pair could take on the whole bar at any point- which makes them pretty perfect for the job.

Just be good- and they'll be happy to serve you! The staff is really cool, and yes meggo- i love having flush options as well.

  2. I'd go to this if my first experience at the Elmdale hadn't been so bad...the security there is just like at Bluesfest; ie. they kick people out! Is it still like that?

hmm- I dunno? I guess they are pretty strict with their rules- being the place used to house prosititutes and derilects.

It's all cleaned up now, so they are pretty on point when people are acting up, or too drunk.. (ahem..)

I think it's a nice place to catch some music and drink some beers. (not draught for me- although they have beau's on tap and I can't resist, and always get super hungover)

The Carleton is where it's at really. No cover ever, 6.50 quarts and a good juke box.

  3. Apologies to the Kiss Army, but am I alone in being underwhelmed by last night's concert? Maybe it was different up in the Death Metal Mosh Pit, but apart from all the sparkly shiny things, they sounded like an OK bar band with a shortage of memorable tunes.

Sharon Jones, on the other hand, should kick serious ass tonight.

No apologies here... I hated it! :)

  4. I totally thought CUBE would've done all the verses. I thought the whole show overall was -- ok. Didnt seem like they had planned too much- especially for the 10 minutes Cube left the stage.

Ice Cube was a big disappointment. Only one verse of Straight Out Of Compton? I realize it's an ensemble piece but there's no way he could have rearranged it? Man, what a letdown!

Xavier Rudd's appeal continues to elude me.

  5. YAHOWHA13 in the Barney Danson Theatre!! These guys sound INSANE. Like, literally insane.

    From their BIO:

"Founded in 1969 in the Los Angeles area, YaHoWha 13 is a psychedelic rock band fronted by Father Yod, spiritual leader of a religious cult/commune called the Source Family. The band recorded nine LPs full of their extreme psychedelic sound with tribal drums and distorted guitars, all completely unrehearsed.

Members of The Source Family, who lived in the Hollywood Hills in the early 1970s, decided to fuse their musical talents and spirituality by forming an improvisational, psychedelic music group. They began to press LPs in 1973, all of which were recorded after hours of meditation at 3:00-6:00 a.m. in a soundproofed garage that served as the musicians’ studio at the family's communal residence. All of the records with Father Yod’s participation were completely improvised, with no rehearsals or overdubs. Most of the albums were pressed in small runs of only 500 to 1000 copies on the the Higher Key label. They were sold to the general public in Father Yod’s wildly popular vegetarian Source Restaurant for $10 each. Though only nine LPs were produced and released, it is rumored that more than 65 albums were recorded by the group but were lost over the years.

The band changed members occasionally, morphing into various incarnations, from Father Yod and the Spirit of ’76 to YaHoWha 13 to The Savage Sons of Ya Ho Wha, Yodship, and Fire Water Air; but the key players were always the same: (Djin Aquarian on guitar, Octavious Aquarian on drums, and Sunflower Aquarian on bass). Sky Saxon of The Seeds occasionally appeared with the band.

In 2007, the surviving members of YaHoWha 13 (Sunflower, Octavius and Djin), reformed and played several gigs in Los Angeles and San Francisco. In June 2008, they signed with a new booking agent out of New York and began touring domestically and in Europe in 2008."

Can't wait to hear what Sunflower, Octavius and Djin get up to tonight!!

  6. I really enjoyed Iron and Wine last night but all the chatty people at the front can go straight to hell.

Very young crowd last night, bit of a sketchfest I thought. KISS is going to be messy.

That crowd was unbelievably chatty at Iron and Wine- which really took away from the show. We kept moving, but everyone seemed to be talking. His analogy about the Escalade with the thumping music, pulling up next to the car having a quiet chat was bang-on, the music from other stages was adding to the distraction.

Also, is it just me or is there a dramatic increase in drunk douchebags this year? You know the ones who are double fisting beers and chanting college slogans, huddling together and dancing some kind of east coast jig at the expense of everyone nearby. Just an observation, and maybe its just the luck of where I've been standing.

on a posetive note: Oumou Sangare was awesome!

  7. punk- have you heard/seen the bass player JB is touring with? Tal Wilkenfeld? Wowserz!! Tasty fretless licks for a 21 year old. She has a trio with Wayne Krantz apparently. Vinnie C was also amazing.

    Todd- great log!

The other guy wrote about someone wanting Jeff Beck to sing at their wedding- wtf?
