  1. The lineup is NOT the same. There is no YMSB or New Monsoon. FWIW, here's the schedule:

    doors 3:00pm

    Keller Williams - 4:30pm

    Michael Franti & Spearhead - 6:00pm

    Umphrey's McGee - 7:30pm

The String Cheese Incident - 9:00pm

Personally, I'm so stoked for this show. I wish I could be at blossom right now but it didn't work out. I thought about the ferry but the timing just isn't right. I'd rather drive the day of the show seeing as doors are at 3pm. Get ready for the sleeper show of the tour, well, blossom too ;o)

  2. I'm still glowing from tuesday's festivities! Definitely pumped to have gotten 2:18 of cheese after some short sets in chicago. Also amazing that every act got more than the hour they get for the rest of the tour. I was really excited when I heard the venue was changed.. I knew the indoor atmosphere would send the energy through the roof. One of the drawbacks of being outside all day is having to pace yourself with the sun beating down on you. I've heard most of the cheese shows this tour and must say that toronto has been the best one thus far...

What I want to know is what the total attendance for the toronto show ended up being. After hearing rumours of 1000 tix pre-sold (which I thought was pretty good despite a mid-week, daytime show), I think there were definitely closer to 2K there.

  3. SCI

7/12/2005 The Docks Concert Theater at Polson Pier - Toronto, ON , Canada

Set 1: Lonesome Fiddle Blues, Best Feeling > Get Up Stand Up > White Freightliner Blues, Mouna Bowa, ON FIRE > DRUMS > Water > I Fell in Love at the Honkytonk > It is What it Is

Encore: Got What He Wanted, Search > What's Goin' On (Marvin Gaye)

There was no get up stand up, but definitely an indian creek jam in between best feeling and WFB.

Also was a wake up in there after mouna boa.

Sick jam after on fire too!

  4. Put it this way. There isn't much you can do to stop me from taping my favourite band.

I plan on taping the whole thing.

But if Franti says 'how you feelin' more than 37x in his 1 hr set, I may just shut it off.

FYI - franti's favourite 'frantiism' is how you feelin'!!! FOCs kept count each song in his 1 hr set each night of red rocks, the opener of big summer classic.

The result? He said it 37x on the 1st night, and 32x the 2nd night. Some people went as far as to graph the #times vs song#...interesting to see the peaks. He averages >0.6 'how you feelin' per minute.

There's also a franti drinking game (he knows about it too!!). You take a shot every time he says that. Guaranteed you'll be pretty schwilly by the end of his set ;o)

Can I get a group hoot?!? Whoopie doopie!!!

  5. Marky - I think SCI is the perfect band to go for that 'over the top' beach setting shit! After all, anyone that has experienced Hornings Hideout would realize how much more SCI strives to make each incident more of an experience, rather than just about music. I think the whole concept of big summer classic is to do this type of thing...a travelling festival that people can go out and experience in every aspect. That being said, who is going BIG in the sumo wrestling???!!?

I wonder if you could float away in lake ontario in that sumo suit. Sure as hell can't swim!

One thing is for sure, whenever SCI comes north of the border, they ALWAYS throw down. All my american FOCs know that they are making a huge mistake when they skip the canadian portion of the tour.

Honestly, I think toronto will do better than several other stops on the BSC tour. For example, cleveland will be lucky to fill the reserved sections of blossom (you can still buy pit tix and reserved in the front section) and rochester will barely sell. But of course, these are the sleeper shows of the tour that I look for. Empty shows where the boys bust out and throw down.

  6. Damn Marky's comments got to me!

A friend of mine picked up tix for this the other day and the guy mentioned to him that the ticket sales are pretty low (apparently 800-1000) and the local promoter is considering pulling the plug.

But I dispelled those rumours, being optimistic, I figured there is no way that the local promoter has the power to do this, otherwise, they could always pull plugs on shows and really fuck up any given bands' tour schedule. Plus, there have been so many rumours of BSC pulling the plug ever since Zooma did, I can't take anything seriously.

I think 800-1000 tickets is pretty good pre-sales considering this is on a weekday, and I don't think SCI can sell more than 1000 tickets even at a normal venue like the kool haus. I figured this rumour was just to get more people to buy tix ahead of time, didn't think it could actually get cancelled.

Boy am I glad I'm going to chicago this weekend to get my fix of the big summer classic. Yonder too...

Guess I may be heading to rochester or cleveland as well!!!

  7. Definitely BSC. They have a schedule of all the bands. Its been saying 2pm start since the beginning.

I've emailed bsc/madison house to clear it up and see if they will do anything to inform HOB & TM.

Regardless of who is right, I want to be there early enough to catch UM! After all, thats one of the main reasons I'm going. It would be a shame if I was the only person there..well, I'd love a private show, but don't think I could get that circular energy going all by myself!

  8. Last week I pointed out the fact that the big summer classic's website says the toronto show starts with umphreys coming on at 2pm, doors at 1pm...where as the ticketmaster website and tickets clearly say doors at 2pm.

So bradm suggested I email TM to inform them of this discrepancy and hopefully notify ticket buyers.

Well, after a week, I got a reply from them that basically says..whatever.. they're right, house of blues' website has the same incorrect time, but no links to email addresses for customer service so I can tell them too.

This is weak. Even though I'm willing to point it out to promoters, they won't listen!

Perhaps I should call up madison house instead and tell them to inform the local promoter that the times are incorrect. Hopefully the people on the other end of things (in colorado) would give a shit, after all, they DO want people to see all the acts, unlike TM or HOB who could give two shits about it.

WTF did I pay service charges for?!?!?!

  9. T.O.jazzfest has 'after hours' latenight jam sessions every year. Last year was at the bar in the sheraton across the street. This year its at the Rex. Musicians from other acts usually show up for a jam.

Just don't know who 'till it all goes down.

Roy hargrove's band showed up a couple nights ago. If ponty and bela didn't have to be in montreal last night, I bet they would've gone on wednesday after the show.

Scientists 'raise the dead' in experiment

    12:44pm 27th June 2005

    Health channel RSS feed

Zombies rising from the dead sound like the stuff of horror films and nightmares - but it could soon be reality.

Scientists have discovered a way to bring dead dogs back to life.

Using a so-called suspended animation technique, they emptied the dead animals' veins of blood and filled them with ice-cold saline solution to preserve the tissues and organs.

he animals had no heartbeat or brain activity and were classed as being clinically dead.

The saline solution was then replaced with fresh blood and electric shocks were used to restart the heart. The dogs appeared unharmed by their suspension and had suffered no brain damage

Scientists at the Safar Centre in Pittsburgh hope to use the technique on humans within a year and are in talks with hospitals about trials on trauma patients.

They believe it could save the lives of people who have suffered massive blood loss, such as battlefield casualties or stabbings victims.

'The results are stunning. They have these dogs with complete cardiac standstill for three hours and they recover to normality,' said trauma surgeon Dr Howard Champion.

  11. From the toronto island ferry website:

    http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/parks/island/summerschedule.htm#centre

    Last one is at 11:45pm.

    From olympicisland.com:

"The closest ferry dock to Olympic Island is the Centre Island dock. On the day of the show, there will be 3 boats operating on the route from the mainland to Centre Island. It takes about 7 minutes for the ferry to travel the route between the island and the city. Loading and unloading times vary with the number of passengers."

I wonder if that means there will be 3 boats operating at 11:45 ??!?!

  12. Well, I've known of this discrepancy for a while. In fact, the doors time at the BSC webpage used to say 12:30. I know TM got the show time mixed with doors, a BIG mistake. I should let TM know, hopefully, they'd send an email our to all the folks who bought online. For people like me who bought them in person though, thats just tough luck if you're not proactive about looking up times for yourself!

Sucks for UM though. It really will be empty for their set I think, which is too bad.

I also hope they have good food vending there or let us bring in food (unlikely). This is obviously a whole day event and we all need to eat. The thought of living off overpriced, shitty 'venue food' for the day makes me sick.

We should all be allowed to pack a picnic for the island.

  13. FYI, my ticket from TM says doors @ 2pm, different than the BSC website, and would result in me missing UM!!

Get there early. Looks like 2 sets of cheese or a really long one! Anyone know the curfew on the island? 11pm perhaps?

    From the BSC website:

    doors 1:00pm

    Umphrey's McGee - 2:00pm

    Keller Williams - 3:30pm

    Michael Franti & Spearhead - 5:00pm

    Xavier Rudd- 6:30pm

The String Cheese Incident - 8:00pm

  14. Apparently Stanley Clarke will perform tonight:

  15. So I've emailed their management and the organizers at the TD jazz fest in toronto and they said:

I don't know what to make of it. There is no replacement for him, but they didn't flat out deny that he won't be there...yet..

    ---------------------------------

    Hello Jason,

Mr. Clarke did have some problems getting to Ottawa yesterday, however we are doing our best to get him to Toronto in time for tonight's performance.

  16. You've GOT to be kidding me right?

Clarke is the main reason I bought my ticket to this show. I wonder if they are taking refunds, 'cause I don't think I would pay the $40 I did to see this 'trio!' without clarke.

There is no replacement for him.

  17. I'm wondering if anyone knows where I can buy some discgolf discs in stores in toronto? Cyberhippie, I know you play - any suggestions? There are plenty of places online, but it would be easier for me to go check some out in person and buy them at a store if possible. I guess online would be a last resort, just figured I'd ask first!

  18. Funny that many folks will be outside.. does that mean there will be loads of room under the tent?

I remember the free MMW show backin '95.. with free snapple too. Then they played for $1 in '96..the jazzfest loonie tunes.

Considering they come back almost every year and the price is only $30 10yrs later, thats not bad.

Compare that to Bela - was $1 in '95 then went up to $15 in '96 when they played in the yorkville tent.

I don't think you could pay me to be outside of the tent, but I bet it'll be a lot cooler out there!

  19. Out of curiousity, what is the sound of Folk Alarm Trio like? Totally different side of kevin than with the sisters or what? What are the instruments in the band, who are the players?
