  2. The Jessica Stuart Few http://www.myspace.com/jessicastuartfew Get a free song here: http://www.jessicastuartmusic.com/ The Jessica Stuart Few produce a unique and distinct sound that appeals to folk, blues, jazz and world music fans and critics alike. She's been praised as "a brand new voice" (CBC Radio) and "a gifted, jazz-influenced singer" (Vancouver Province) with a "rich tone" (Music Gallery). Jessica Stuart has hit her groove - while the surging rhythms are clearly rooted in the improvisational give-and-take of modern jazz and progressive folk, you've never heard anything quite like The Jessica Stuart Few. A uniquely gifted guitarist equally adept on koto (a 13-string traditional Japanese floor harp), Stuart's diverse influences include Stereolab, Led Zeppelin, Stevie Wonder, and Joni Mitchell. She currently performs in five other bands at last count, when not singing with either of her two choirs. These seemingly incongruous inspirations nonetheless come together beautifully in her enchanting Kid Dream album. Produced and mixed by Stuart in conjunction with Oddities main man Mischa Chillak (best known for his sophisticated beatwise work with underground hip-hop heroes K-OS and Notes To Self), Kid Dream is the result of Stuart's three-year creative collaboration with Charlie Haden-inspired double bass ace Dan Fortin (Serena Ryder) and propulsive percussionist Nico Dann (Tuneyards). it represents her life's story and work, from growing up in Vancouver to the past several years in her new home city of Toronto. The common theme in all of Stuart's uplifting music on Kid Dream is that it's important to make the most of every moment. If her hectic tour schedule is any indication, she's taken the wise adage to heart. Recent Media Quotes: "a brand new voice on the Toronto music scene" - Garvia Bailey, CBC Radio 1 "Stuart proves to be a gifted, jazz-influenced singer" - Tom Harisson, "The Province" (Vancouver) "Close harmonies, a sense of whimsy and fun" - Cythia Ramsay, "The Jewish Independent" “Compellingly unpredictable … Jessica Stuart’s voice has a rich tone, she is an accomplished guitarist and is clearly a natural composer.†- Dewi Minden, Executive Director, The Music Gallery, Toronto’s Centre for Creative Music upcoming shows: May 11 @ Groove Kitchen, Cambridge, ON May 12 @ London Music Club, London, ON May 13 @ Maxwell's Music House, Waterloo, ON May 14 @ The Pearl Company, Hamilton, ON May 15 Album Launched Party @ Rivoli, Toronto, ON w/ Zacharia & Dive Sparrow May 16 @ The Cornerstone, Guelph, ON May 17 @ The Mansion House, St. Catherines, ON May 18 @ Ossia, Peterborough, ON May 19 @ The Stinking Rose, Cambelford, ON May 20 @ Mansion, Kingston, ON w/ Steve Poltz May 21 @ Rainbow Bistro, Ottawa, ON May 22 @ Quai Des Brumes, Montreal, QC

  8. EOTO http://www.eotomusic.com/ http://www.myspace.com/eotomusic Jason Hann and Michael Travis (The String Cheese Incident) make up this 100% improvised live Breakbeat/ House/ Drum n Bass/ Trip Hop project. Drawing from the ethos of some of the great DJ's and computer artists of the world, they use cutting edge technology to create truly original and melodic dance music in the moment, with the undeniable power of live drums. The music is created on the spot, recorded, then mixed and remixed LIVE to create an ever-evolving musical experience. Since the project is 100% improvised, every night promises to be a unique dance experience. Hann and Travis play different roles in this band than in SCI. Jason plays the drum kit, percussion and sampler, while Travis is in charge of the tonal elements, playing bass, guitar, keyboards, as well as hand percussion and live mixing. Michael Travis is a pioneer in the art of modern improvisational jam-rock drumming. He is especially known for his groundbreaking work on playing both hand drums and the drum kit simultaneously. As the drummer for the highly accomplished band, The String Cheese Incident, he has developed a unique style that is very supportive of a free jam aesthetic while still always laying it down. He further develops that approach in EOTO by being super solid to the point of emulating grooves that some of the best programmers and DJs would create, except with that elusive human feel. Travis has played along side some of the worlds greatest drummers while playing with String Cheese including Trilok Gurtu, Babatunde Olatunji, and Bill Kruetzman; & he has collaborated with many other artists including Keller Williams, Karl Denson, Steve Kimock, Warren Haynes, & Bela Fleck. With EOTO, he gets to stretch-out into brand-new territory; Handing over the rhythmic element to Jason, Trav is finally able to test out his melodic chops, playing the electric bass, electric guitar, keyboards, & samplers in addition to his EOTO mini-kit during the duo's spontaneous compositions. Jason Hann is an accomplished composer/percussionist/ drummer who has been playing professionally since the age of 12. Growing up in Miami, Florida, he was exposed early to international music through his father, who is also a musician. Combined with his Colombian heritage through his mom, Jason grew up embracing rhythms from all parts of the globe. Music has taken him around the world, studying first hand in countries such as Mali, Ghana, Haiti, and Korea, both learning and performing folkloric and contemporary music of the land. A dynamic performer, Jason has also produced, composed, recorded, and toured internationally within many different genres of music including Rock, R&B, Pop, Hip Hop/Rap, Jazz, Latin, Latin-Jazz, Flamenco, African, Persian, Electronica, Techno, Brazilian, Indian and other fusions of World music. In addition to his current musical project EOTO, Jason has recently expressed his musical energy through The String Cheese Incident and each of his fellow band members' respective side-projects, through his solo electronica and all-percussion recordings, and through working with other artists such as Loreena McKinnet and Vinx . Jason continues to hit the road with legendary soul man Issac Hayes when possible. With a diverse background of musical collaborations that include Youssou N'Dour, Keller Williams, Rickie Lee Jones and Dr. Dre, it is evident that Jason will continue living in the musical moment for a long time to come.
  9. Elizabeth Shepherd CD Release Party Saturday, May 1st, 2010 Black Sheep Inn http://www.theblacksheepinn.com/ Wakefield, Quebec Tix $10 adv / Ticketweb.ca Elizabeth Shepherd is among Canada's most promising young talents and she has the widespread critical acclaim to prove it. The rave reviews for her first two studio albums as well as sold-out performances at prestigious venues like Tokyo’s Cotton Club, London's Jazz Café and the Hollywood Bowl have been extremely gratifying for Shepherd, but the Toronto-based singer/songwriter/pianist has never been content to rest on past achievements.
Shepherd’s debut Start To Move (2006) and follow-up Parkdale (2008) were both JUNO nominated (*Canada's Grammy equivalent) and described as “pushing the boundaries of jazzâ€. With the release of her stunning third album Heavy Falls the Night, she pushes well past those boundaries to carve out her own niche of smart, sophisticated and adventurous music. Heavy Falls the Night takes the listener on an unpredictable musical ride. It's hard to pick a favourite track from such an eclectic album but, depending on your taste, it could be the dancefloor ready Seven Bucks, co-produced by Japanese mixmaster DJ Mitsu The Beats (Dwele, Jose James), and inspired by an NFB documentary. Or it could be The Taking - Shepherd’s powerful tribute to the women who came before her – knocked out in Jazz 11/8 time. Or maybe it’s the supremely soulful reworking of Anne Murray's 70s soft-rock radio staple Danny's Song, one of the few secular songs that made it past the gatekeepers in Shepherd's Salvation Army childhood home. Elizabeth's rhythmically intricate, groove-oriented tunes, sincere lyrics and distinct, soulful voice have earned her a worldwide following, and her fans will certainly not be disappointed by the explorations on this new record. Critics, hipsters and music aficionados from London to Tokyo have been spreading the word for a few years now, and will surely continue to embrace her music. But more importantly, with Heavy Falls the Night, Elizabeth Shepherd is destined to reach music lovers everywhere. For more info, please visit www.elizabethshepherd.com
