  1. I just reread the article noting wherein he finishes by announcing triumphantly that no, he will NOT waste his time with facebook!! No! Not with all the great books he could be reading!

Fine, then, write a 1000 word article on why you'd rather be doing one thing in favour of something else.

Nevermind the fact that you can always sit down, log into facebook, see your friends funny weekend photos, some new photos of your old friend's little baby out in BC, wish someone a happy birthday, maybe have a laugh or two and then log off ten minutes later and then go read that book.

Like a lot of out of touch dinosaurs, Mr. Hodgkinson makes the erroneous assumption that one thing replaces every other thing.

  2. Thanks howler, interesting article, although - with respect to you for your submitting it for our critique - almost laughingly alarmist ("a takeover bid for the world!").

What I gleaned from this article is that it's author, Tom Hodgkinson, must be around 158 years old.

  3. Don't start with unauthorized live recordings.

Try "Cold Roses" or "Jacksonville City Nights" for fairly representative introductions to Ryan Adams.

"Easy Tiger" is less consistent then those recordings but is fairly accessible, as is "Heartbreaker" and "Gold". All of these are filled with tremendous songs mixed with inconsequential filler.

"29" and "Love Is Hell" are a bit more far-out and adventurous, but I'd recommend "Love Is Hell" anyday.

  4. While I love Neil, he does drop his share of dopey comments from time to time and I think this is one of them:

"It's time for science and physics and spirituality to make a difference in this world and to try to save the planet."

I am sure the world's legions of scientists, physicists and (Jebus help us all) spiritual leaders have all just been sitting idly on their hands waiting for the likes of Stephen Stills to put the crackpipe down and bestow the responsibilities of globl transformation upon them.

Neil may wear a plaid shirt like a working man but he's just an old rich, spoiled hippie like the rest of them.

  5. 337. Songs off of albums in which the band has mentioned your name in the liner notes (excluding "fans and friends" and similar names that you know aren't you as well as business' you work at or have worked at)

Awesome. I'll check back to see how this one is coming along in early April.

The last thing I wanna do is continue to stall this baby now that we actually have a bit of momemtum again' date=' but I have to profess confusion on this one as well. The way I read it, the mention has to actually be specifically intended for me. Random "Thanks to Ben, John and Billy"'s dont count. Can someone clarify this for me? [/quote']

I read it the same way. Someone could thank a "Marc" in their liner notes but I know they wouldn't be referring to me, so under the terms of the theme, I don't think I could list it.

  6. whatever floats your boat. I think there's "cover bands" and then there's really insane concepts like DSO, and they're not innapropriate at at event like Bonnaroo. The Lez Zep booking I bet was a bit of a joke/gift, given all the Zep rumours.

I just figure that this far into it's history, Bonnaroo is basically the US version of Glastonbury in the UK. Clearly, they wish to throw curveballs at the audience every year and break the mould of "JamBand Fest", but while retaining that spirit.

From an artists' point of view, I would imagine it's an honour to headline.

Even as someone who's yet to make it to the 'Roo, it's fun to see the reactions to the announcement every year! I'd be surprised if they don't have a couple of biggies still up their sleeves though.
