  1. I was lucky that in between the Englebert Humperdink and Paul Anka albums, my parents had a few of the early beatles albums, as well as the Red and Blue collections.

For me, in Grade 6, it was all about Deep Purple, Hendrix and Led Zeppelin and whatever blues albums I could find (Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Bluebreakers etc.).

  2. Hey everyone - I just wanted to invite those of you who seek to have intelligent, compassionate and friendly discussion about the music of BNB (and any other great band you may wish to comment on) to sign up to a board I created: Burt Neilson Band Forum

    Burt Neilson Band Forum

I've just put it up so there's nothing happening now, aside from a little poll to get things started (and probably a few glitches!).

Hopefully, this board will eventually attract a higher level of debate than the "official" message board. This is not intended to be a place where you can deliver messages to the band (although they are certainly invited to participate if they wish) but to each other. I hope it comes to serve a useful purpose.

Sign on up, introduce yourself, tell us what you've heard about NYE plans and please try to keep it both positive and friendly!

    peace,

    Marc.

I'm thinking you mean to refer to Stewart Copeland here. Andy Summers played guitar with The Police.

In this interview, Trey also says, "If I start playing with Phish again, I want to come back with a whole bunch of new ideas, thus making Phish much better."

Cool Trey, when? I think it's time we all stopped holding our breath.

I'm of the opinion it will be many years before Phish regroups. I keep up with all the recent interviews and - reading between the lines - my speculation is that there are some wounds that have to heal and major issues to be addressed before those four guys hit the road again.

    Just my armchair speculation.

No kidding, I just went there for the 1st time myself and was shocked at the tone of the posters. Reminded me of the jambands.com message board, which is *not* a good thing.

Maybe it's just a negative space they're working through and all will be good in due time, but man.... it's funny, all the people lashing out at the band for coming to a decision they just don't like will probably still be lining up, $10 in hand, for upcoming gigs. I'll be one of them! See you around, at a BNB show hopefully.

  5. Jeffrey is a super nice guy and this is a shame indeed. But I feel the reasons why and what for are none of my business. Things are done for a reason; whether they reach my criteria of "good" or "bad" reasons doesn't matter.

    Cheers to Jeffrey!

  6. I once saw Jane Siberry perform at Ontario Place Forum and it was rather good!

Damn - I would have *loved* to have seen the Nugent @ Lulu's. His new album is called "Full Bluntal Nugity" - how fucked up is that!!!

And Scottie - don't let anyone ride you about U2: they're still one of the great bands of our times and I have nothing but fond memories of seeing them. I tried to get tix for the Hamilton show but they sold out too fast!

  7. Interesting thread, although there are still shows that may adjust these results to come. I'll give my picks and a special mention for each:

Let me start with "the best":

MMW @ Nathan Phillips Square, Toronto - just a great, all-around exploration of music by three talented musicians. Billy Martin is the only drummer I would go see perform a drum solo just on it's own.

Special "best" mention to Bill Frisell for his performance @ Guelph Jazz Festival - a sublime evening indeed.

    "the worst?"

Disco Biscuits @ Lee's Palace - ugh, just what is it these guys are supposed to be good at? The only show in years that I've paid good money to see and left during (for us, it was halfway through the second set).

special "worst" mention to the people assembled in Buffalo this Summer for the DJ Logic/.moe and Scofield shows on the same night: they were inattentive, distracted, rude and obnoxious. Scofield was killer although it seemed no-one was paying attention.

Also, special props to those good 'ol boyz in the New Deal for throwing down so many great Toronto area shows: whether it was the bouncy night @ The Church in March or the shit-box that is (was)Ted's Wrecking Yard in August, or the phenomenal Opera House shows in May.... they really brought me a lot of happiness this year!

    peace!

  8. Scottie King is, indeed, a decent and nice man. Cheers to you Scottie! I look forward to meeting more of you - hey, there is a bit of a chance that I may be in the Ottawa area around Xmas time, I'd love to check out the local scene... I'll be sure to try to see what's happening if I make it that way.

Anyway, in the context that I've been moving/renovating/working/studying (well maybe not enough of that) all week, here's my 5 Heavy Rotation picks, in no particular order:

    Ween - Chocolate and Cheese

The New Deal - 8-16-01 Toronto

    The Beatles - A Hard Day's Night

    Steely Dan - Katy Lied

    Shannon Lyon - Summer Blonde

Nice stuff, fun to paint walls to. Peace!
