Rob, the difference between "energy" and "God" is basically the difference between science and spirituality. You cannot dispute that energy exists. It can be measured (even calories are a measurement of energy). God is far more subjective. You are right though to think they are similar. If you choose to call your belief in energy "God", please feel free to do so. I just shy away from that term due to all of the connotations associated with the word.
Oh, it may be time to mention here that I work for a Catholic school board. Yeah, and not just for fun either. I must admit, since I've started working here, my spirituality has never been stronger. However, it is mine. It doesn't really jive with the rest of the chosen here. I am constantly being challenged by them though. I do admire their perseverence. I thought they were going to lynch me for not going to their Advent celebration. Frankly, I'd rather stay at work. I have no desire to keep company with hyprocrites. Besides, I can't afford to be Catholic.
Bokonon: I remember hearing the Maitreya reference was from Hebrew scripture. However, Maitreya is a Sanskrit word. I've always loved it. I think I originally read it in a Kerouac novel. Not too sure though. That was a long time ago. I've fried a lot of brian cells since then.
Just some trivia here for any of you familiar with the Orillia area. There is a large Catholic church here in town (yeah, big shout out to Guardian Angels). Believe it or not, the cross on the top of the church is a cell phone tower. Hmmmm...and the church needs to collect money from me because...
This thread is making me tired. Time to punch the clock and go snowboarding. Peace friends.

How about Roddy Foxwell?

If we're talking all-time here, I gotta say Django Reinhardt too.
Also, Outback and Baka Beyond were pretty much ignored until Graham Wiggins went on to form Dr. Didg. I had another one, but I forgot it. Damn! I hate it when that happens.

Catherine Wheel: one of the best bands to come out of the UK in the last decade
Good call Low Roller! "Eat My Dust, You Insensitive F_ck" is one of the best bitter break-up songs ever.
And what about Mike Patton from Faith No More? Anyone ever get down to some of his Mr. Bungle stuff? "Girls of Porn" is one of the best dirty funk songs ever.
Scotty, you're dead on about G.Love. That poor bastard has been busting his misters for about 10 years now. No way he should've been opening for Jack (as much as I dig him too). Even for the simple fact that his music is what you'd rather end the night with...not Hawaii-inspired love songs. Save those for cuddling. When I'm smashdown drunk at the Amphitheatre, I wanna hear some "Cold Beverages"!

best video ever!!!
Whoa!!! That just blew my mind. Although Tielli all well kept and groomed kinda weirds me out. I feel funny.

I also was raised Catholic by my mother. The fact that my father absolutely refused to go to church with us is still a soft spot...even after 35 years of marriage. I jumped ship pretty young though. The early mornings are what did it for me. Well, at first that was it...then I started to read. I have no problem with others enjoying organized religion. I just don't understand why we need to construct one more barrier in a world that already doesn't understand one another. The human desire to be both homogeneous and segregated is lost on me.
I remember reading that Jesus was originally called "Maitreya" in ancient Hebrew texts (Bokonon, maybe you can help me with this). I've also read that Jesus was one of Maitreya's deciples. Maitreya, translated, means "Lord of Love" or simply "love". THIS HAS TO BE WHAT IT'S ALL ABOUT. If you do some quick Googling, you will find that almost every religion has a founding philosophy means either "love" or "peace". My Mom tried her best to make me believe in something I couldn't get my head around; something far too complicated for a 7-year-old receiving first communion to understand. When you boil it all down, the key to religion is really one of the most basic things we are first taught: Treat people the way you would like to be treated. It's so simple. Could you imagine a world whose inhabitants treated each other with love, kindness and respect? What would happen if we truly believed in peace?
As for a higher being, I'm still not too sure about all of that. The residual Catholicism still sneaks up on me from time to time. I'm not sure if it's because I believe, or because I find myself at a point in my life where I need to. I do believe in energy. I guess this is more along the lines of Paganism. There is a duality to all things. There are no absolutes. There is energy in all things and THAT never dies. I could go on all day here. Luckily, I won't. See what happens on a wretched Tuesday morning when you're sick and dopey on meds?
I strongly recommend that anyone who has an interest in Christian criticism get into Tom Robbins books. Maybe this'll sell ya:
"Religion is not merely the opium of the masses, it's the cyanide."

I remember having a whole slew of Beach Boys 8-tracks. My Dad went through a big Brian Wilson/solo John Lennon phase too, so I got down to a lot of that stuff. I remember him sitting on the basement floor listening to "Watching the Wheels" for ages. That, and "Some Guys Have All the Luck". I forgot about Rod.
I think my first tape was one of the classic rock mixes called the SOLID GOLD COLLECTION!!! Does anyone else remember getting these at the gas station when they were kids? :: I was crazy about Jerry Lee Lewis!!!
When I progressed beyond gas station R&R I was really big into AC/DC, Twisted Sister and the like. My big bro liked the heavy stuff and I thought he was the coolest. Other than his hand-me-downs, Public Enemy was a big hit. Ha! 2 Live Crew is also ringing a bell. Way better than NKOTB! Oh my, how embarrassing.

Ah! I totally forgot about Mercury Rev. It never ceases to amaze me how many people have never heard of them. The same with Built to Spill. I think Guigsy was the 1st cat I ran across who had that live version of Car. I nearly lost it.

i mean my full name is David Robert Kendall Newbold
Kendall? :: Seriously Newbold, with a gem like that it will be forever impossible for me to ever call you Rob again.
You shouldn't listen to me though when it comes to names. I've got the whole Dead song influence going on, but my Dad had to come up with the pretentious spelling of "K-A-I-D-Y". I like it, but it still pissed me off that I can never find anything with my name on it. When I was a kid I always wanted that personalized fork & spoon set. Oh well, could be worse. Right Kendall?

Bokonon...where do you usually board? If you're ever up in the Horseshoe Valley/Mt. St. Louis area, let me know. We can fall and get whiplash together. Ha ha!

Anyone seen Sarah lately?...That dirty bandwhore! I guess she's too busy with her old man in the RV. Ha ha ha. Miss ya "Crash"!

Anyone heard anything about Benicio del Toro directing The Rum Diary by HST? I heard it was in the works a few years back (with Johnny Depp to play HST again), but no news of a release date. I think Josh Harnett or some other little puss is going to play Yeamon. Ha! Sounds pretty crazy.

YAY! A fellow Mac addict...right on!
I never even bothered to set up my Mac mail. A friend of mine set it up on hers and said it was nothing but a pain in the ass. Besides, up until a few weeks ago I was living in the woods with no internet access (or even cable...yikes). My sister works for Apple so I'll see if she knows when I talk to her next. Sorry, I'm not much help (just really bored at work).

You need potassium sister! Try eating more bananas, papaya, broccoli, potato, tomatoes and peanuts. There are a bunch listed at http://www.essense-of-life.com/info/potassiumfoods.htm A potassium deficiency is a common cause of "regular headaches" in a lot of people. Because you're carrying a little one, your potassium may be getting depleted. If the foods don't work, check with your doc to see if you can take a supplement. Natural Factors makes a 99mg tablet that's good quality.
I also heard that lavender oil helps, but it just makes me nauseous. Ick! Good way to relax though. Also, ginger's really good if you are feeling sick to your stomach.
Also pay attention to when this happens...take note of what you eat. My Mom could not stand the smell of eggs when she was pregnant with me (even though she loves them). I've never been able to stand eggs myself. The same thing happened with my sister and the smell of melted butter. Babies sure know when they don't like something. I hope you're feeling better soon.

Oh man! I had totally blocked that broad out. What a total C-word.
My gay best friend would always use pages of Leviticus to burn one down when the Zig Zags were no more. Man, with the right buds, you can giggle at irony for hours.
