  1. I don't think I've ever looked at a banner so much or so closely in my life. Usually I just ignore them. I'm thinking that means it's a really effective one!

A solid cast of musicians with this lineup, that's for sure!

    Peace, Mark

  2. Oh, and Tonin my friend. It has been MUCH too long since we crossed paths. Here's hoping that we'll both actually be able to make it to some of the same shows in the near future. BNB is a DEFINITE for me (as an example).

The feeling is mutual edger. I'm in for BNB.

Booche, thanks for posting that interview with JH. I remember reading it before, or something similiar to it, but it was refreshing to read it again as it captures so nicely the approach taken by Phil, which I love.

I've seen DSO a few times and JK's playing is much closer to Jerry's playing than any of the players that have played with The Dead, Phil or Ratdog. I remember when Jerry died, the view of most fans was that Jerry couldn't be replaced (which he obviously can't) and any guitar player who stepped in to fill his shoes shouldn't try to emulate Jerry. I agreed with that view at the time but am now thinking that it will be nice to hear the band with a player who sounds like Jerry.

And Joe Russo is a killer drummer ... what a great choice for this band.

  3. I'll likely make the trek to Buffalo to catch the Further 2010 show. This cast of musicians is stellar and I'm thinking they will come as close to capturing the sound and musical spirit of the Grateful Dead as anybody can.

  4. So glad I made the drive on a school night for this show! I thought the band was on fire, and there was a huge amount of energy in the arena for the show. I loved the selection of songs and music.

Their newest cd Joy has been in heavy play rotation for me lately and I really enjoyed hearing two songs from the new disc (Stealing Time From The Faulty Plan and Kill Devil Falls).

Mike Gordon’s bass playing was a huge treat for me at this show. I will be getting a copy of this show to hear it again. Down With Disease, Free, Mike’s Song > Weekapaug, etc. … lots of tasty bass playing and tone!

And Kuroda’s lights … amazing … I love how the lights are played like an instrument. There may be bigger and more elaborate lighting and staging setups out there, but I’m unaware of anybody who works the lights and does as much with them Kuroda does.

I thought the sound quality at the show was good, but not great. It seemed muddy at times. And the dynamic range of the sound seemed limited, although this could have been mainly from the song selection and playing rather than from anything else. But the sound was certainly good enough for me to enjoy and get lost in the music.

It was definitely worth the journey down the 401 and back for this show!

    Peace, Mark

  5. as we are both part of the working class - we will be firing ourselves down that night and back...to be at work bright and friggin' early in the AM!

Ditto. Maybe we'll see some friends at the show ... or on the 401.

Looking forward to some live Phish!

    Peace, Mark

  6. $10 tickets on stubhub for Cobo. Looks like I wasted $55.

Me too. It's crazy how many cheap tickets there are for the Detroit show. I don't think it's that big of an arena ... is it? Wish I would have checked before buying another one from ticketmaster yesterday.

    Peace, Mark

  7. I can't describe how heavy the show was for me today.

    Hey Chris,

I remember having a conversation with you years ago where you described how much you enjoyed the album Exile on Main Street, so I can imagine that last night's show was damn heavy for you!

    Peace, Mark
