  1. Hey Northern Wish. I'm glad to hear that you're a Michael Moore fan. Enjoy that book. Just a quick correction. Moore's documentary with Nike's Phil Knight in it was called " The Big One " ( about his book tour ). His Bravo! TV series was " The Awful Truth ". Anyway, Moore should leave the great establishment that is Wal-Mart alone. Wal-Mart has done wonders to the development and " beautifying " of highways such as the 401 & 400, outside of the increasingly derelict downtown cores of towns known as: Belleville; Trenton; Port Hope; Coburg; Cambridge; and Hwy 400 towns like Barrie etc...; and soon to be Midland and Penetanguishene.

  2. It's 36 in Toronto and that's not including humidity. The strange thing is, it's not sunny. We've been having violent storms for the past 2 days. My TV stations are not functioning well at all. Example? Check out MuchMoreMusic right now. It should be " out " all over Canada.

  3. What makes me barf? Any of the following:

    Nickelback

    Creed

    Puddle Of Mudd

    Gosium & The Golden Caramels

The Tea Party ( especially Jeff Martin )

    Nelly Furtado

    Diana Krall

    Depeche Mode

    New Order

    No Doubt

    Enrique Iglesias' new single

    Enrique Iglesias

    Fishman naked

  4. You really can't call them The Who anymore, but I'm still going to the Roger & Pete concert. I have 100s. Not ironically, my 2 tickets cost $100 each! Still, this should be a good show. Ironically, the last time I saw a member of The Who in concert was when John Entwistle played Toronto 5 years ago. Not an exceptional show, but it had exceptional bass.

  5. Congrats Phishy. By-the-by, Boystown is no where near your place. Anyway, I like Cabbagetown. It has real character. We should hook-up. Maybe we could even jam? I play sloppy blues/funk guitar, with a dash of Zappa madness for good measure. Also, I like your website. When you get here, you should place adds in Now & Eye magazines ( as a start ). Talk to you soon.

  6. Hey. I'm sitting here at work watching the great Police doc/program - The Police: Outlandos To Synchronicities. Check it out. There are lots of complete concert performances. I almost forgot how good these guys were live. It's on again tonight at 1am and Friday at 3pm too.

  7. The " Purple Wurl " is one of the greatest of all funk keyboardists. I'm glad that you're discovering him. Listen to any Funkadelic ( from 1970's Free Your Mind... and on ) and Parliment cd and you'll know why he's considered one of the great innovators of the funk genre. Oh yeah, he's all over Gov't Mule's: " With A Little Help From Our Friends " live cds. Check 'em out.

  8. Sorry about you loss Puddles ( what's your real name anyway? ). I remember driving my 19 year cat Carlos to the vet for the last time. Devastated would be an understated description of the way I felt that day. You gave your cat a fighting chance and you should be admired for that. Keep you chin up and try to catch nero if you can. You'll feel better even if you think you won't.

  9. Hey Giggles, good for you. Just a quick question: " Did you quit smoking the funny stuff too "? That would be even more impressive to me. Anyway, join a gym. I've never smoked, but whenever I feel unhealthy ( after drinking binges ) I hit the gym hard. It'll clear your head and rid the body of toxins for sure. Maybe you can get back into hockey shape. Then a comeback could be made to order.

  10. I buy at least 1 to 2 cds a week and own 500, so heavy rotation is not an option for me. I like too much stuff. However, these 5 cds never leave my cd players for very long:

    1. " Marquee Moon ": Television. I've given this album to many people as gifts, including Booche. Televison was/is CBGB's most underrated and influential New Wave/Proto-Punk band.

    2. " Pink Moon ": Nick Drake. A great summer cd from this deceased genius. I think the title track is one of the most beautiful songs ever written.

    3. " Aenima ": Tool. These boys are dark and heavy to the core. Pink Floyd meets Sabbath.

    4. " Sweet Tea ": Buddy Guy. Ask Booche about this one. Buddy's best work and one of the deepest and heaviest blues albums recorded in the last 20 years.

    5. " The White Stripes ": The White Stripes. Drums, guitar and vocals - that's all they need. I just bought this cd last week. It's great. A link between punk and Muddy Waters. Inspiring stuff.

I do think Trey's new solo album is THE summer album for 2002 - as was Farmhouse in 2000.

A book recommendation would be Tony Fletcher's great biography of the great... and crazy Keith Moon - Moon: The Life and Death of A Rock & Roll Legend. This is how a biography is supposed to be written. You learn about the man, his society and the history that influenced his life. I learned a lot about the 60s and 70s while being truly entertained and frightened by Moon's self-abusive antics and music genius.

  11. I remember the themes of my conversation with Jimmy. I did ask him what he thought of the Fat Cats - they were playing while we were talking. Jimmy said they sounded pretty good. Remember when I passed on a " Hello " to Jimmy from Derek Trucks, who we saw a week earlier in Kingston. That was cool. And then I had a chance to tell Derek a week later that I passed that " Hello " on to Jimmy. A wild and music crazy week to be sure.

  12. I was in the 200s in TO and I could barely hear Jimmy's guitar. Warren came off as muddy too. The sound was better ( at least in the 200s ) during moe. However I enjoyed the show. The sound was excellent a week earlier for the Down From The Mountain concert at the Molson Amphitheatre - although it was a mainly acoustic show.

Was it just me, or does Phil look younger than Jimmy Herring?

  13. Mike Myers can't play a young Moon. Moon got old fast, but he was damned young looking throughout the 60s. Myers is an aging 39 year old, who is getting pudgy fast. Now, Myers could play a 30-32 year old Moon no problem. The one thing he can't do and never will be able to do is pull off Moon's spastic drumming ability and self-destructive stage charisma.

  14. I like Yonge & Eglinton, Mount Pleasant & Eglinton, St. Claire & Yonge, St. Claire & Bathurst. I've lived in a lot of parts of Toronto, but I've never lived in any of the aforementioned areas. I've always wanted to live in those areas howver. Cabbagetown is colourful, but can be a little rough. Queen Street West is cool too, but don't go as far as Dufferin & Queen. Anyway, keep us informed on the areas you're interested in living in.
