  1. From what I read, the Blu-Ray version is all in 24/192 stereo. The biggest thing from both the audio and video standpoints is that Blu-Ray will capture more of what's on the original masters than any other format. It's like the idea that an analog film or photograph has far more information to offer than say a CD or DVD can capture. That being said, I'm sure that a lot of the older stuff will be rough around the edges all the same.

It looks like a blank 50gb Blu-Ray disc is still around $30 US a piece so even if you had the means to copy it from someone else it would cost the same as the pre-recorded version.

  2. Milwaukee is likely a good call if you want to hotel it, I checked out Priceline after we found out we were in and there weren't any deals to be had at all. The closest options were around 25 miles away so I would think that you could make it 35 if you could make it 25 and save a few bucks in the process.

  3. Looks like the new album that they have coming out(Ready For The Flood) has been delayed into January, they are going to be playing the Mod Club on Feb 4th 09'. I thought that both the album that Louris had out this year as well as the show he played at the Mod Club were quite good, hopefully this deal will be as well. My Jayhawks catalog has gotten pretty well worn this year so I'll take anything related that I can get my hands on for sure...

  4. Yeah, I LOVE Wayne Shorter and have front row balcony seats for this and tix for the Neil/Wilco show on the same night. Might try and see part of both but it's hard to say how the timing is going to work out. I'll likely see when each set starts on the Thursday Neil show and then make the call for Friday after that.

  5. In other news, my sources tell me that due to Trey's suckiness over the past years, Radiohead's Johnny Greenwood is going to be brought in for support on guitar for the upcoming Phish shows. Also, apparently during the setbreaks there will be a steel cage match between Count Chocula and The Loch Ness Monster versus Boo Berry and The Yeti. You heard it here first kids...

  6. Not to be spreading ugly rumors or anything but I received a call this evening that Phish are on for Hampton March 6/7/8 2009. I can't really confirm or deny other than to say that uncle Ricky sounded pretty confident when he called.

That being said, it's pretty tough to get a room in that neck of the woods during those dates so it would seem that something is afoot. The people that were working at the hotels that I phoned knew all about the shows if that is meaningful at all. At any rate, it sounds like a pretty exciting prospect for sure...

  7. Funny how sometimes shit in your own town flies under your radar. A buddy of mine just called to tell me that Johnny Greenwood is playing in Guelph tonight. It's part of the K/W Symphony's Intersection series, this one being called Electronica. That's Friday the 26th, tonight!!! Apparently there are lots of good seats left too.

    Johnny Fuckin' Greenwood in Guelph!!!

We're hitting up Ryan Adams in Syracuse but otherwise I would definitely check this out, kind of sad to be missing it actually...

  8. Yes, the beauty of something like this is that they could offer high res versions very easily. Plus, you are without the mechanical limitaions of CD players which is also a win for several reasons. Unfortunately, the general concensus is that shrinking music to the bare minimum size is the only thing that anyone seems to care about, quantity over quality is the order of the day. You would think that as memory becomes cheaper they would be able to offer several versions on the same chip, high res, 16/44.1(cd quality) and mp3 as well along with other extra goodies at the same time.
