  1. Can't wait for this one!!! You Ottawa folks will be seeing me again... Rheos then BNB... somebody pinch me! It's a Saturday night made in heaven for this kid. :)

Plus, I just won a contest from the Rheos record label Six Shooters... so my new toque (part of the prize pack) will be keeping me warm at the canal. ;)

  2. Del - I think you should picket the beer store.

Make a placard saying something like "Not feeling so Lucky today" on one side and "Lucky beer raises prices :( "

Get the media behind you, maybe you'll get some free beer for being such a loyal / irate customer. They'll either reward you or try to keep you quiet. Either way, there could be some free beer involved.... enough to make up the difference of paying for a few 24's at the higher price.

    Just a thought... ;)

  3. Thanks for such a phenomenal night everyone. The music and the company kept were stellar. Extreme kudos as well to the Bou/oches for providing a summation of the eve and a forum for us all to express our impressions in. As well to the 40 main mainstays who made sure the party and the music never stopped that eve / ensuing day. (Did it ever stop?!)

Cheers to the nero boys & Velvet for being such rockin' lads, both in musical wizardry and in spirit. I wish you all nothing but the best.

Take care and thanks for the memories... you're a fine bunch indeed.

  4. > Wilco will be the musical guest tonight on Letterman (keeping Sir Bacon company) ;)

    > Wilco are also on Austin City limits tomorrow night (Sat. Jan 8th) on PBS

WILCO will release a new version of their current album 'A GHOST IS BORN' before they undertake short UK tour in March.

The band will play two dates in Britain. The new version of the 2004 record, complete with a host of additional material, will be issued on March 7, shortly before the shows, which are at:

    Nottingham Rock City (March 13)

    London Hammersmith Carling Apollo (14)

  5. Wow... looks like my name topped the list for quite some time... I guess people's parents got sick of hearing the name when they were growing up and didn't wish it upon their kids :)

I've always liked my name though.. and strangely have never met a Mary around my general age... only older ladies.

  6. My sister and mom were on just like mom! I got to sit in the studio audience while they filmed it and it was incredibly exciting. We have it on video tape and used to play it whenever my sister would bring home a new boyfriend to embarass her.

The host of the show pre-fergie oliver was a complete drunk & pervert. The whole show he was hitting on my mom and slurring his words. Hysterical to watch years later.

  10. Very into him... saw him at moe down as well. Friendly and I listened from our tents by the side of the hill and loved it. Amazing musicianship. Then, when we were treated to the accompaniment of his gravelly beautiful voice.... stunning.

Agree with solar garlic on the humour factor as well... he was such a hilariously-grumpy-old-lovable-bastard.

If you could bring him, that would rock.

  11. I went and saw a screening of the Dylan film "Eat the Document" last night @ the Drake Hotel in Toronto. Really interesting film... Dylan lovers should check it out.

here's some info on it... from the band

Rock and Folk Would Never Be the Same

Bob Dylan's Eat the Document is a documentary that captures the madness that ensued during Dylan and The Hawks' 1966 tour of Europe in which Dylan transformed himself from an acoustic folk singer to a rock ‘n’ roll musician. The tour was also finally documented officially by Columbia/Legacy Recordings' with the 1998 release of the CD Live 1966: The "Royal Albert Hall" Concert—The Bootleg Series Vol. 4, Dylan's 1966 performance at Free Trade Hall in Manchester, England.

Bob Dylan's 1966 tour of Europe created more controversy and artistic debate than any other tour to date. Dylan left behind his image as a scruffy, socially relevant folk singer and now embraced rock ‘n’ roll: his clothes were mod, his lyrics oblique, and the music loud. His once loyal fans bombarded him with shouts of "Judas" and "traitor." The enveloping madness was captured by filmmaker Donn Pennebaker, who made the documentary of Dylan's 1965 tour, Don't Look Back. Eat the Document was later edited by Bob Dylan with Howard Alk—resulting in an extraordinary look into the artist's psyche.

Originally made for network television, Eat the Document had been commissioned for ABC Stage 67. Not yet ready for Dylan's impressionistic, experimental work, the network was confused by its stream-of-consciousness organization, and Eat the Document languished on a shelf until the early seventies, when it was screened at New York's Academy of Music and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Barely viewable bootleg copies of this documentary have been in circulation for years. Eat the Document was edited specifically for network television, with breaks planned for commercials to be inserted; because it was turned down by ABC, it has rarely been seen in its intended form.

Eat the Document presents a multitude of Dylans for the viewer to contemplate: weary and fatigued on tour; jamming with guitarist Robbie Robertson and country legend Johnny Cash; riding around with John Lennon; and confronting a dubious press and public. The rage of Dylan and his backup group The Hawks (later known as The Band) can be felt on such energized performances of "Tell Me, Momma"; "I Don't Believe You (She Acts Like We Never Met)"; and "Ballad of a Thin Man."

Among the highlights: an elegant "One Too Many Mornings"; Dylan and Robbie Robertson working out some new material, with Dylan singing in his Basement Tapes voice - proof that he had it in him all along; a song by Dylan and Robertson that sounds strangely like a future Band song,

Rumors say that Pennebaker's version, called Something Is Happening, may soon become available. His cut reportedly contains more music than what eventually wound up in Eat the Document.

the boys with "Herb" - - from The Tarleks video shoot last week

  13. I read an article on this in today's National post but was unable to link to it (due to subscriber fees)... I dug a similar article up online... this is crazy and pretty scary!!

World for sale - or a private island?

God made the world in seven days for an undisclosed cost, and now man has recreated it for a steal. Artificial reality has taken on a whole new slant with developments in habitat and ecosystem creation by the Dubai based Nakheel Corporation, which is creating their own customised islands for sale. Once the stuff of science fiction, terraforming is now an affordable reality as real estate can be designed and shaped to the most outrageous whim. Nakheel have gone so far as creating an artificial archipelago that replicates a scale model of the world with all major land masses, as well as replicas of lost cities from different parts of the ancient world that have to be seen to be believed.

    3310_01.jpg

Surrounded by the Arabian Gulf and year round sunshine, the climate of Dubai is drawing in a record number of visitors and residents and the real estate market is booming. There's some keen fiscal management behind all the real estate, as the Dubai government is keeping interest rates and property prices low to attract foreign investment and residency. With an 8% GDP growth rate Dubai can barely keep up with the demand for housing - which is why they are creating new real estate from scratch!

Two visionary artificial island environments have been created just off the coast of Dubai - the "Palm, Jebel Ali" and the "Palm Jumeirah", both palm tree shaped land masses surrounded by hemispherical reefs. Time lapse photography allows you to watch the fascinating growth of these man made island paradises as they rise from the sea like Atlantis in reverse, are customised and developed for luxury living, with five star hotels and exclusive retail outlets dotted along the trunk of the palm.

    3310_02.jpg

The third environment is "The World",which consists of 300 man made islands in the shape of continents - but unlike the overcrowded original, each island in this world is up for private sale.

This can be broken down into a collection of estate homes for a community of weekenders or year round residents, resorts, or the perfect island sanctuary for those who can afford it. Miniature replicas of England, Shanghai, even Tasmania are up for grabs as location is still everything - even on the small scale.

The imagination is let loose populating the World, with Nakheel encouraging micro versions of global environments on each of the World's islands, from full scale replicas of Caribbean ships to European castle resorts and even an African game preserve. Nakheel water patrol security will ensure the safety of residents while exclusive water taxis will ferry guests between islands day and night.

    3310_08.jpg

On the mainland, Nakheel has again stretched the boundaries of the imagination with it's "Lost City" development (Located in Jebel Ali, near Nakheel's other signature developments the Gardens Shopping Mall and Discovery Gardens, the Lost City is a recreation of history through architecture. Properties feature fresh water streams flowing near the homes in a recreation of ancient styles from the Fertile Crescent of the Middle East to places as far as the Orient and Mediterranean Africa, or totally transformed environments to your brief.

Greg Norman has even designed a world class golf course exclusive to the property. Nakheel has invested enormous detail in the project, sending engineers to archaeological sites to copy the layout, styles and building materials used by the Old World and combining them with 21st century comfort and convenience for modern needs.

It used to be said that 'no man is an island', but thanks to Nakheel, every man can now own and design one.
