secondtube
my moms ancient computer has been acting up on her. All she uses it for is pogo (an online gaming platform). It had worked for ages, albiet very slowly. I put a router in, and now have three boxes running off it. Two of the three, running 98, all work perfectly. The java runs fine, as does pogo. Well the old computer, which did run fine, no for some reason is giving me java errors. Now it was running fine on the dialup, now it wont run properly in the network. The connection itself is great, and everything else internet wise runs fine. I've re-installed the correct java program for the windows 95 box, but it still giving me problems when trying to run the pogo.com java applet. Here's the error the console is giving me: Java Plug-in: Version 1.3.1_11 Using JRE version 1.3.1_11 Java HotSpot Client VM User home directory = C:\WINDOWSProxy Configuration: no proxy load: class com.pogo.client.jvmtest.Applet not found.java.lang.ClassNotFoundException: java.net.UnknownHostException: solitaire31.pogo.com at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName0(Unknown Source) at java.net.InetAddress.getAllByName0(Unknown Source) at java.net.InetAddress.getByName(Unknown Source) at java.net.Socket.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.net.NetworkClient.doConnect(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.doConnect(Unknown Source) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(Unknown Source) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.openServer(Unknown Source) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.net.www.http.HttpClient.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.<init>(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpClient.New(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.createConnection(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.connect(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.protocol.jdk12.http.HttpURLConnection.getInputStream(Unknown Source) at java.net.HttpURLConnection.getResponseCode(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.getBytes(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.access$100(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader$1.run(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.doPrivileged(Native Method) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.security.PluginClassLoader.findClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadClass(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletClassLoader.loadCode(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.plugin.AppletViewer.createApplet(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.runLoader(Unknown Source) at sun.applet.AppletPanel.run(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Thread.run(Unknown Source) I can't for the life of me figure out whats wrong with this damn pogo program. its the only thing my mom uses the computer for. i'd just put windows 98 on it, but, well, moms mom. she doesn't like change. the computer is actually really stable, other than for this damnn java problem, which was fine only a week ago. I dont think anyone has buggered with the java, so i dont know what went wrong with it... Anyone know whats wrong by reading the error message above? bradm
When you moved the computer from dial-up to the network, did you set or re-set the proxy configuration in the browser? The top lines of the error have a "no proxy found" indicator, that might be the problem. Aloha, Brad
secondtube
hmmm.... so where should i check?
secondtube
i installed netscape 6.2, thinking that might solve the problem, but it didn't...same error. so i'm pretty sure its a java setting... thats about what i know right now. bradm
Where to check really depends on the browser. Do a search in the browser's Help system for "proxy"; I would assume that all the machines should have the same setting. Aloha, Brad

c-towns
Here's an unrelated question; The boss shut his comp down last night and went to turn it on this morning and has zero power, its not the power bar or the wall socket, if its not the cord, what else could it be?
