I usually stay at the hotel Pennsylvania which is right across from MSG, but they seem to have increased their rates a lot since my last visit a few years ago! When I go back there, I'll likely try there first, unless it's crazy pricey. I remember it being under $100 a night for 2 doubles. That was 10 years ago though. I just rented a loft at 19th and 9th ave in Chelsea at the end of Feb for $120. Has kitchen, bedroom, living room, balcony, TV and internet. It is a lot cheaper than staying in a hotel and in walking or subway distance to most things. Check out the short term rentals/sublets on craigs lits if interested.
