Dr. J
hey boogie, missed ya' last night buddy. Early on i managed to piss off a couple of big guys in toques and to annoy a couple of good-lookin' red-haired women, but for my own safety, i gave that up :: Catch ya' next time. As expected, it was an amazing night. The place was jam-packed and the crowd was into it right from the opening notes of "Joints & Cigarettes." The Spades opened with a short set, then the The Golden Dogs played a set and then the Spades shut the place down, ending with an encore of "Burning on Fumes" and a standing ovation (setlists are posted on www.thespades.ca). As noted elsewhere on this board The Golden Dogs are just a bundle of manic energy and their smokin' cover of McCartney's 1984 was a show-stopper! Seeing Dave Azzolini dancing on the table during this particular song was hilarious. The Spades laid down two wicked sets....some of the hottest rock I've seen from them yet. "Powerlines" "Wired For Sound" and "Zombies" were particularly strong and "Mafia Sting" "49 Tons" "Burn Things" and "Marijuana" all brought roars of approval from the MoHo crowd. They intro'd a new original "The Business of Being Friends" and sent a collective shiver through the crowd when they launched into a blistering rendition of Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues"! Suddenly, it was like someone really was pissed off that "the vandals stole the handles"......great song.....great night!
