Herbie Hancock and the Headhunters 2005 / Artist In Residence

We're proud to announce that jazz legend and pianist extraordinaire HERBIE HANCOCK will serve as the Bonnaroo Music Festival's first ever Artist-In-Residence in 2005. Herbie will not only perform with his own band, HEADHUNTERS 2005, but he will also collaborate with other artists throughout the weekend. He will also be featured as part of the annual Bonnaroo Superjam. We're honored to welcome this great icon of American music to Bonnaroo 2005 for what will certainly be an epic weekend of musical sorcery.

Galactic's Krewe De Carnivale featuring special guests Leo Nocentelli (The Meters), Henry Butler, members of the Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Big Chief Monk Boudreaux

Galactic brings some of New Orleans' most legendary musicians out to the farm for a one time only 'Mardi Gras meets Bonnaroo' style celebration. Please stay tuned for more exciting announcements regarding this very special performance.

The Frames

2004 saw The Frames sweep the Hot Press Critics' and Readers' Polls, and they also won their first industry gong in the shape of the Meteor Award for Best Irish Band. More to the point, the band confirmed a new international deal with Californian mavericks Anti, arguably the only label in the world that could claim to be the band¹s spiritual home, boasting such artists as Tom Waits, Nick Cave and Merle Haggard. They celebrated this by touring America with Damien Rice, and spent the last few months putting the finishing touches to the new album.

Saul Williams

To thousands of youth across America, Saul Williams has defined and redefined poetry as an accessible, living art form. His poetry has serves as the archetype for a new generation of poets and spoken word artists.

The Old 97s

The Old 97s just finished recording their sixth album, Drag It Up. It's the first for their new label, New West Records. After tinkering with their limits on the previous five releases, they think they've settled in with what they do best on Drag It Up - solid writing and performances, with enough bells and whistles to make things interesting. It reminds you of their earlier recordings, they mix bluegrass, surf, country, rock, folk and some good old-fashioned psychedelia.

Matisyahu

Matisyahu's music, which he terms hasidic reggae, combines the sounds of Bob Marley and Shlomo Carlebach, yet remains wholly original. Matisyahu's performance is an uplifting, powerful experience for all in his presence. Even the most pessimistic in his audience is inspired by his ability to so honestly convey such a delicate, topic as faith/spirituality. It is his dedication to his belief and openness to others that compels one to respect his artistry and message. It's in that fleeting moment when our skepticism melts and our souls open up, that Matisyahu enters with his booming sound of faith.

Perpetual Groove

The Perpetual Groove sound blends thoughtful songwriting with mind-bending instrumental exploration. The Savannah, Georgia based quartet is on a track for greatness as they continue to bring their original and infectious quilt of musical styles on the road from coast to coast.

Lake Trout

Good luck trying to pigeonhole Lake Trout. As intent as the music press is to affix labels, this band¹s music truly resists categorization. On the band's new Rx/Palm label debut, Another One Lost, this accomplished songwriting fivesome mine wholly uncharted terrain. The album's rock experimentalism will quite naturally elicit comparisons to The Talking Heads, The Pixies, Pink Floyd, and Sonic Youth. But the live drums somehow manage to evoke both John Bonham¹s thunder and Aphex Twin¹s drum machine. Elsewhere moody atmoshpherics will recall Amon Tobin, Kool Keith, and DJ shadow. While the groups sonic explorations bring to mind Steve Reich and Brian Eno.

Gabby La La

Gabby La La's debut CD will be released this spring on Les Claypool's Prawn Song Records, making her the first new artist on the label in a decade. Produced by Claypool himself (who also plays many of the instruments), the recordings of her original quirky songs mark the culmination of what has been a steady collaboration between the two. Wielding the sitar, electric ukulele, toy piano, accordion and Theremin, Gabby La La is a perfect example of eclectic creativity uncommon in today¹s music. A graduate of the California Institute of the Arts and a long time student of Ali Akbar Khan, Gabby presents a funky style, clever lyrics and refined musicianship. She has been compared to the likes of Bjork and Yoko Ono.
