bouche
Does anyone have any suggestions for canoeing in the Ottawa area? A guy at work was asking for something around 20 minutes from Ottawa.

TomFoolery
He could go and paddle parts of the: - Gatineau River - Ottawa River - Rideau RiverA little furthur away, he could go to Mt. Ste. Marie. Behind MSM there is a network of lakes that are phenomenal camping - crown land (FREE camping) - and stunningly beautiful. That's my A+ superstar rated area. The Carp river is ok, but probably too low right now.The Mississipi river could be fun from Carleton Place to Galetta, but there are obligatory portages around certain sections of dangerous chutes. There is also a very nice descent on the Bonnechere Rive - again furthur out...20 min is pretty restrictive for good canoeing out here. You've barely gotten away from the urban sprawl. Tell him to give himself and hour and a half to get out to some really splendid areas.
