shainhouse
I work for an 'indie' centric mag out in the UK and they send me all over covering some interesting new music. Here's a review of The National from last week. Great band worth checking out... heavily influenced by the Dead and Tom Waits.http://www.drownedinsound.com/articles/13194peace-
d_rawk
Ok. Ok. Review??At some point - in the far future I'm sure - I am going to get over the fact that I found out about this show after. it. happened.I am refraining from reading your review for reasons of sickening jealousy. I am sure it is well written, and that the show was enjoyable. That is all.
shainhouse
Well, it was a short show (they only played for about an hour) and I was really ill all night if that helps at all.The band's site is www.americanmary.com for more info: Edited September 23, 2005 by Guest
d_rawk
Ah, that's just my spoiled brat routine. The review was in fact well written, and the show did sound enjoyable. An hour is pretty damn short. Was anyone else on the bill?
shainhouse
this god awful opener. I didn't even get their name. They had a drum machine, which pisses me off from the getgo.(I'm a drummer)We Are Scientists! was supposed to open but cancelled.
Jaimoe
Because of a self-imposed budget, I missed The National's gig at The Horseshoe. I really wanted to go too. I like the Alligator record and their videos kick. I'm predicting that this band will be talked about on this board in a year or two's time, kinda in the way Ryan Adams' recent " discovery " by some.Oh yeah, how was the crowd? Size? Were they into the music? Edited September 23, 2005 by Guest
shainhouse
There were over 100 people there and most were cautiously into it, meaning they weren't givn'r but were paying attention and enjoying it. Good vibe throughout the night as well.I love this band. Hopefully people will check em' out... It's funny how influenced they are by music that spearheaded our scene... I think 2 or 3 of them are deadheads in the band actually.
