whiteymuseum
For Immediate Release: Wednesday March 15 @ Underground 41 Catharine St N, downtown Hamilton 905.741.7625 http://www.undergroundrocks.ca FEMBOTS Doors 9PM The FemBots began as a home recording project of Dave MacKinnon and Brian Poirier. Their debut, Mucho Cuidado (2000), featured songs written and performed on power tools, toys and broken down thrift store instruments. The duo quickly carved a unique space in the Toronto music scene bringing their post-industrial folk songs to the stage using tape loops and reel-to-reel machines mixed with often frantic live performances. Their critically-acclaimed second release, Small Town Murder Scene (2003), pushed the weirdness and angularity of their debut into the background and adopted a more atmospheric approach that bridged the gap between the extremes of their sound. The FemBots began work on a third record at their Junkshop studio in the spring of 2005. The resulting album, The City, unveils a rich, authentic, sound that builds upon the FemBots earlier work while moving in new directions. Banging piano chords, catchy choruses, soulful vocals, swinging guitars, woven string and horns push the stark black and white vision of their earlier albums into full technicolor bloom all the while remaining true to the emotional core of the songs. At its heart The City is an homage to the bands hometown its victories and failures. whiteymuseum
now on this bill is, RED SHAG CARPET!!! Energized performances and genuine alternative rock music are the buzz surrounding Red Shag Carpet that led CBC radio to call them Alberta's "band you are most likely to get hooked on". Red Shag's sophomore album, Lift and Drop, will be released January 28th, 2006. With producer Nik Kozub (Veal, Shout Out Out Out Out) on board, the new record captures the on-stage drive and style that GMCC-Intercamp magazine describes as "wildly inventive". The band will back up the release with two intensive cross-Canada tours before the summer and that's only the beginning. It's time to get the word out. The full plate will come as no shock to Red Shag Carpet. Promotion and touring have been the cornerstones of the band since their initial 2003 release. What began as an independent undertaking has grown into a full-time career for Daniel Yarmon, Matti Darrah, Ted Ani and Allan Pickard. The music, compared to Gomez, Ben Folds Five and Wilco, has latched well onto radio waves.
