WB&E
World Beats and Eats April 7th - 2006 Mercury Lounge 56 Byward st. (Sidedoor/Upstairs) [color:green]$8 at the Door -Benefit for - Ottawa School of Art -Eats by - Azteca, The Table, and Famous Falafel -Beats - This Months Giveaways from Ninja Tune- In house Beats by Emily Jones followed by Special Guest Ruby Jane -Live Art by - i am rurik and mishtron ************************** The Beneficiary: The Ottawa School of Art's contribution to Ottawa's arts and cultural scene could easily be said to lie in the scores of amazing, talented artists that have studied and graduated (and sometimes not) from the school, but I was made aware that they not only build artist but they actively help to support it. The Art Bus, currently 4 years strong was, something that caught my eye in my first months in Ottawa. Just recently I was informed (although I should have already known) that this is an Ottawa School or art initiative. Keeping with the 2006 theme of giving to the arts and humanities, the proceeds from this months event will be used for the Ottawa School of Art Bursary. A program that gives deserving children a chance to learn about and create art. The Eats: -Azteca (www.calendarioazteca.ca - 41 William st. - 613-241-6050) - Some say that the Margaritas at Azteca are the best item on the menu. We can't give away free Margaritas so we will be supplied with Quesadillas Azteca, quesadillas their way. -The Table Vegetarian Restaurant (www.thetablerestaurant.com - 1230 Wellington St.- 613-729-5973) -As a vegetarian myself, I judge restaurants food on whether the amazing taste of the food out ways its higher cost, when compared to home prepared meals. This restaurant was worth it.... I ate there alot! -Famous Falafel (582 Rideau st - 613-562-0303) - I like falafels hot, fresh, with the proper amount of spice, and preferable with a hole in the middle. This is how they make them at Famous Falafel. Since we cant have a team of Falafel technicians preparing them for us at WB&E, we will have their amazing hummus in lieu. The Beats: This month the giveaways are provided by Ninja Tune Very well known for mainstay artists such as Kid Koala, the Herbaliser, and Antibalas. This month we get a sampler taste of their beats. Always swanky in house beats. ** 7-9pm beats w/ Emily Jones (emilyjones.ca, E18hteen, Social, Par-fyum) ** 9-10:30pm A "welcome back" Special Guest Ruby Jane Live Art: i am rurik and mishtron. If you know their work around town then you will definitely want to come out to see them. Even if you don't know them you have probably still seen their work high and low all over Ottawa. ************************** [color:red]April 7th - 2006 - 7-10pm Mercury Lounge 56 Byward st. bradm
Hmmm...I might head out for this. I checked Friday's music listings, and there didn't seem to be much else, and I think it'll be good to go out to a venue I don't patronize much, support the OSA, hear some funky beats, and sample some eats.I'm a little confused about the scheduling, though, as it says [color:red]7-10pm. Does the $8 get you in for the whole night? What if someone were to show up later, like around 10:30pm?Aloha,Brad
