Townshend has contradicted himself repeatedly over the years in countless interviews. Example (paraphrased): One moment Dave Marsh (Rolling Stone writer and Who biographer) is an idiot then Pete 5 years later says, I'm reading Dave Marsh's biography and I'm relearning what really happened.

But... I've always wanted to believe Pete slugged that smelly yippie.
