VINYL RICHIE (Victoria BC)

Canadian songwriting duo Lester formed in 1998. Made up of musician/producer and all around workhorse Brian Carson and prominent West Coast DJ /producer/David Hasslehoff look alike, Scott Arkwell AKA DJ Vinyl Ritchie. Lester's music has been described as "downright filthy, primetime block rockers" by Jockey Slut magazine. DJ Freddy Fresh says "[Lester] definitely have the funk" and included them on his 'Abstract Funk Theory' compilation for BMG Europe and his 7" 'Howlin' USA'. With countless exclusive white labels killing the clubs, two releases on Skeewiff's Jalapeno Records (London) and a second full-length album to be released in 2006, Lester are layin' down their musical manifesto.

CHU.jpg

BIG LEAGUE CHU

Colin Chu, better known as Big League Chu, is simply the leading DJ talent in Canada?s breakbeat scene today. After nearly a decade of DJing, his name is synonymous with the funky, party-happy sound that?s become Chu's rallying call - and it's one that crowds answer faithfully.

Passion for music and fun are what motivates Chu, who plays the piano, flute and guitar, and counts the Dave Matthews Band and Public Enemy as his biggest musical influences. It’s this good-natured respect for good times and eclectic sounds that has garnered this humble DJ of Hong Kong and Singaporean descent to such a steady stream of press, from underground publications like Tribe and Klublife to mainstream outlets like the Toronto Star and Eye weekly. His current projects include Make It Funky and the return of Kickit.

THE PHAT CONDUCTOR

The Phat Conductor is one of Toronto's leading breakbeat exports, wreaking havok on turntables, laptops and projectors in

North America, the UK and Europe. Old School, Nu Skool, Home School... it doesn't matter. With an ear for the future and an eye

on the dancefloor the man behind Ice-9 brings you lush, organic electronics, funky bass grooves and a vinyl set performance

to tell your grandkids about...... www.thephatconductor.com

DAVE DUB

Dave Dub is probably the most underrated Breaks DJ in Toronto. After putting out the first Canadian Breaks record ever backin the mid nineties Dave went on to have many releases on various labels, including his own imprint Dubble Sided Vinyl (DSV). With two movie scores under his belt and releases set to drop on Funky Cactus and Lab-Rok Dave's future is looking bright indeed. Dave will be rocking his famous 'Tiger Style' in the back room at Make it Funky so keep an ear out, the man can do no wrong.

Mat the Alien, eh?

A really cool Whistlerite. He saved Telus' ass during the Telus Ski and Snowboard Fest when Jurassic 5 showed up 5 hours late. Mat was called at his home in Whistler, and came out with his kickass record collection (which is humongous) and spun and mixed for hours outside in the cold, while we waited for J5 to convince the border-patrol that they're really not a threat to Canada; and eventually make their way up here.

I've also met him a few times, on a sort-of professional level. Nice guy. (Also a friend of a friend of mine, by coincidence.)

Go see him. He deserves the support.

Hey StnMoutain thanks for the plug, Mat consideres himself a Whistlerite, but his thick English accent still comes out.. this wil be the second time he has been a part of the make it funky experience.. those who like turntablism will certainly see that Mat is one of the top artists in this artform... Those who wanna dance, Mat will surprise you with his awesome (and sometimes bizzare) song choices; at the last show he remixed Honky Tonk Woman (by the Rolling Stones) with some funky drum breaks.

did anyone see the movie ?

I've heard from a friend that Mat actually also has a CD of original music recorded, that is really good. I mean original music, as in he is playing instruments, and I think he may play all the instruments on his disc.

(I've never actually heard the disc, or seen a copy, so this may not be true; but my friend claims to have heard it, and tells me I'd dig it.)

Go see Mat.

(Jaydawg rocks.)
