Join forces? Yup, looks like the old Clear Channel (now "Live Nation") is eating up some more and making its evil empire that much bigger.

Musictoday, Live Nation join forces

July 31, 2006

Live Nation, an event and venue management company, has agreed to acquire a majority stake in Coran Capshaw's Musictoday.

Musictoday, based in Charlottesville, operates online fan clubs, artist e-commerce and fulfillment, VIP packaging and secondary market ticketing. Its 2005 gross sales were more than $100 million, according to a news release.

Musictoday clients include Dave Matthews Band, the Rolling Stones, John Mayer, Kenny Chesney, AC/DC and the Grateful Dead. The company has more than 200 employees.

"Our mission is to build larger and more passionate communities of fans around our artist clients," Capshaw said in a release.

"Partnering with Live Nation will allow us to provide the artist with a full suite of services related to the live experience. We are now in a unique position to create opportunities for artist-fan interaction both online through out platforms and offline at venues, taking fan communities beyond the virtual world to the places where artists and fans converge."

Live Nation, a public company based in Los Angeles, owns, operates or has booking rights for 153 venues worldwide and produced more than 29,500 events in 2005.
