DJ CZECH Vancouver, BC www.djczech.com www.myspace.com/djczech Most underground-oriented Canadians living on the west coast of Canada are familiar with the legendary Soul Kitchen weekly event at Tommy Africas nightclub in Canadas top ski and snowboard destination, Whistler, British Columbia. Few, however, recall that it was DJ.Czech who introduced the event to BC over thirteen years ago. Indeed, today, Czechs Soul Kitchen remains the longest running club night in Whistler, and continues to showcase some of the worlds renowned DJ talent. Thus, Czechs initial step into Canadas Underground in 1989 has spawned a long prosperous career, for Czech has since become a household name for breaks-lovers everywhere. A Vancouver resident for the thirteen years, Czech has further established powerful draw to the already-thriving local Vancouver club scene. His residencies at Lucy Mae Brown Rusty Trombone Sundays and Le club a GO-GO on Thursdays with Vinyl Ritchie (Wicked Lester), coupled with his vast musical knowledge and impeccable turntable skills, have helped to establish Vancouver internationally as one of Canadas leading cities for up front electronic music. Importantly, though, these residencies have not interfered with his tight touring schedule. Initially self managed, Czechs reputation has led to play at prestigious clubs and massive raves throughout Europe and North America every weekend for last five years. HeadliningAlongside The Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Orbital, Crystal Method, Rabbit in the Moon, Porno for Pyros, and countless others, has not been uncommon for Czech. His next step - writing and producing his own tracks was inevitable. Constantly building his impressive home studio, his prime outlet for his music so far has been Futuristic Funk Records a joint venture involving himself and two other Vancouverites. Already a label in Vancouvers foreground, Futuristic Funk Records is aimed at showcasing no only Czechs own material, but other Canadian talent as well. With such an extensive history in the scene, and so many accomplishments under his belt, it is no surprise that Czech continues to represent Canada as one of the most preeminent breaks DJs in the world. slavetothegroove
I saw Czech at Shambhala a few years ago. Definitely one of the best sets I'd seen all weekend. Really glad I discovered him, and yes he's totally up jambands.ca alley. A lot of the hipsters I know really dig him too. I suggest anyone who's free and got the cash, make it out to this show, you won't be disappointed. CiaoSteph
DevO
I feel its my duty to report how shitty the DJ Czech show was in Seoul on Saturday night. There was huge promo for this show among the waygookin (foreigner) crowd and most got in for free, which is cool. But I had such high hopes for some break beats and funk and funky break beats. He didn't play much of the above but instead a crappy brew of house and quasi trance; in other words, more of the same for Seoul. I wish he'd of stuck to what he is good at. I get the feeling that the promoters meet the touring dj and tell him "Oh Seoul is all about house and psy-trance" and then the dj plays to that.. All the time. It happened with DJ Shadow and others who have visited here as well. I talked this show up quite a bit and the whole crew I came with was let down. Czech blew it. That is all. Jay Funk Dawg
Shitty to hear Kev.. when Czech plays for Make it Funky it's full on slammin' funky breaks... but he has been djying for so long and has in roads in so many communites. i.e. trance, techno & house that you are probably right, the promoters asked him to concentrate on that style..
