For all you Londoners....

My old roommate Shakey has a band called CONTACT that will be playing at the Bacchus Lounge this Saturday if anyone's interested in checking out some live music. Some of you might know Shakey from Frontier Town... he's a phenomenal hand drummer and has led many of the late night drum circles there.

I've seen them play a bunch of times around Toronto and they are quite good. Plus they are wicked guys to boot. They always get a really good turnout in Toronto (several hundred usually). The band is made up of 2 guitars, drums, conga, bass.

They will also be playing this Saturday from 3:45-5pm at the Toronto Beer Festival and next Wednesday night at the College Street Bar in Toronto.

Take a read through their bio (not written by Shakey... it's a bit of a cheezy read but the band isn't) and go out and have some bevvies and shake it down with them if you are in London this Saturday.

CONTACT

-

Fusing the energy of rock, dub, break-beat, and house music into improvised live and recorded performances, CONTACT is a band on the cusp of an emerging genre of underground music. As an alternative to the DJ, CONTACT assails bored dance floors with irresistible beats and unforgettable hooks.

CONTACT was formed in 2001 as a side project for its five members. Motivated out of a shared interest in dance and jam oriented music, a sound developed quickly for the group. Soon, it became apparent to those involved that something unique had been stumbled upon, and should be pursued. In August of 2002, the group began playing performances in lounges and warehouse parties throughout Toronto. In this period, great strides were made in the development of the band’s aggressive interpretation of house music.

In early 2003, CONTACT recorded its first EP. A collection of three songs, the 30 min disc was recorded completely live, with no overdubs, or excessive post-production. Intended to capture the band’s improvisational ethic, the self-titled album is an excellent example of CONTACT’s raw, emotive style.

With dance-floors across North America atrophied from the status quo, CONTACT is in a unique position to offer rehabilitation. While no one in the CONTACT organization doubts the continued popularity of electronic inspired dance music, it is assumed, however, that the method of presentation has become stale. By drawing the musician out from behind DJ booth, CONTACT provides partygoers a chance to directly witness and participate in the creation of the evening’s music.

CONTACT has cultivated a broad following of fans and supporters throughout Toronto and the surrounding region. With connections to both the underground dance scene, and the exploding jam band phenomenon, CONTACT can rely on a mixed and vibrant crowd whenever necessary. Look to the CONTACT name wherever a dance floor needs filling.

Hey Brad,

Their website is coming - they have a domain name and are in the process of building the site.

Shakey has 2 tracks encoded as shn's on his computer at home - one is a 10 minute excerpt from a 33 minute song and the other is a 17 min from a 60 min song. The quality isn't too bad, although it could be better if they had an actual taping rig. He's going to go on SHNapster through direct connect so that people can get at them.

Or, you could send him an email and he'll get them to you:

brianehiggins@hotmail.com

brian.higgins@moneris.com

He also said that if anyone wants to come and tape him, they're totally welcome to.
