DevO
Every weekend in the summer the Harbourfront Centre puts on a free festival with loads of great free music. (This past weekend included Do Make Say THink.. anyone go???)Anyways, this coming weekend is a festival called Beats, Breaks & Culture. And none other than CINEMATIC ORCHESTRA are playing live, for free. Easily one of my favourite bands over the past 2 years so I wanted to give a heads up. Also playing is FOURTET, and lots of others.. Here's a description:Beats, Breaks & Culturehttp://www.harbourfrontcentre.com/wr/bbc/A festival for the senses, the Beats, Breaks and Culture show displays the creative artforms of the urban environment. The internationally-inspired event focuses on music, break dancing and live graffiti art creation. The music on hand is that of an electronic vibe, featuring some of Canada’s most talented house, trance and jungle artists. The festival will explore the history of electronic music, starting with its roots in soul, funk and jazz, as well as current and future music that mixes electronic with contemporary global sounds. This year's performers include The Cinematic Orchestra, Kieran Habden (a.k.a. Four Tet) and Steve Reid, Shout Out Out Out Out and DJ Dolores (full band).Other features in the festival include Rock the Bells, a documentary that personalizes the spirit of the do-it-yourself movement, and Pop, Lock & Load IV, Canada's largest break dancing competition.
