Cool idea, hope it pays off and they can expand the series....

Legendary Queen on big screen

Cineplex Entertainment's experiment at screening rock concerts in movie theatres, which got off to a successful start Saturday with a live David Gilmour concert from London, will continue next month with a big-screen re-mastered broadcast of a legendary Queen concert recorded at the Montreal Forum in 1981.

The high-definition broadcast with digital surround sound will screen at 53 Cineplex theatres across Canada on Oct. 17 and include a Freddie Mercury look-a-like contest.

The concertwill be released on a DVD called Queen Rocks Montreal on Oct. 30, including footage of the band's famous July 13, 1985, Live Aid performance that is a favourite with Queen fans.

With the revival of interest in Queen songs in Toronto and elsewhere in the world following the success of the stage musical We Will Rock You, Cineplex vice-president Pat Marshall is confident attendance will be high enough to continue broadcasting rock music concerts in theatres in the future.

North American movie theatres, including Cineplex in Canada, already regularly fill multiplexes with Metropolitan Opera broadcasts.
