phishtaper
at the Opera House tonight ... anybody else going to see Andrew Bird?
phishtaper
it's hard to tell people you went to see a guy who plays the violin and whistles, and make it sound cool. GREAT show! Bird played for almost 2hrs. its really interesting to watch him play to see how he loops the whistles, violin riffs. almost like brian eno is off stage tweaking knobs, but im pretty sure its just Bird doing it all himself. he played a lot of songs that I wanted to hear, like nervous tic, and fiery crash, scythian empire off armchair apocrypha. picked up the new CD at the show for $15 - so much better to put the $ in his pocket than HMV's. Montreal's Plants and Animals opened. (they played Hillside this year) pretty decent band, but the crowd was more into drinking than listening. (too bad too, his mother was there.) Dosh (Bird's drummer's project) is opening for other shows.anyone else go?
AD
yeah, the GF saw him last night in Montreal. I think she liked the show, but i haven't talked to her since so that's just a wild assumption.
phishtaper
sweet. Dosh was opening for him in montreal. i would have preferred to see him. he was looping drums during the Bird set, so him on his own would have been fun. nothing like a drummer gone wild with technology. let us know what your GF thought of the show, AD. Jaimoe
Bird is massively talented and belongs in this era's trail-blazing and young singer/songwriter gene pool with Jim James, Ryan Adams, Sam Beam, M. Ward, Damien Rice, Jeff Tweedy (the senior member) and even that punk-ass kid Bright Eyes.
