I've recently become engaged with a group/night called CuJam West that put on this ukulele jam for beginners every Monday night at Lula Lounge. Haven't actually made it out yet, but looking forward to it once I finally do have the time. Anyways...

Just got their weekly email, and it has a bunch of cool events going on this week that I thought some of you'd like to know about.

SATURDAY Jan 30

TWO spots have opened up due to cancellations for this wonderful BUILD YOUR OWN UKE workshop.

We provide everything (but the strings!!!) to assemble a tremendous uke from a kit.

Both spots are for the morning session that begins this Saturday morning at 9:30am sharp.

If you are interested email Steve McNie at stevius@yahoo.com and we will fill on a first-come, first-served basis.

Cost is $85 per person ($88 if you wish to pay by PayPal).

Full details are on our website CALENDAR by clicking on the date for the MORNING SESSION.

Steve will notify you about whether or not you were able to secure your spot and to arrange for your immediate payment.

To those of you who have already signed up, we will have limited quantities of Aquila ($13 including tax) and Kala Red ($7 includes tax) soprano stings on hand, thanks to Michael and Heather at Broadway Music. Feel free to purchase and bring your own, but these will be available as a convenience if you are interested.

THIS WEEK @ cujamWEST

Our very first full-tilt program and we are pumped!

Positive reaction on this week’s program changes, so moving forward here’s the program:

7:30pm

Doors open, the bar is open, the kitchen is open and YOU are welcome to join us for the pre-game warm-up. Time to meet people, have a drink, get settled and get tuned and ready to jam uke-style!

7:45-8pm

If you’ll be joining us for the very first time OR if you would like some help tuning, please arrive by 7:45. We’d like to get to know you and help those of you who would like some road-side assistance in tuning.

8-8:45

Please be tuned and ready to start right in with some songs by 8pm. The less time we take in getting ready to play, the sooner we start to play. We’ll be jumping right in with some of the songs you requested last week, along with some neato surprises from Dan Misener!

8:45-9

Social break: your chance to fill your glass and empty your bladder

9-9:45

Workshop. This is when we cover new stuff about playing technique.

9:45-10

The seventh inning stretch. Bar, Bathroom and banter as you get settled for…

10-11pm

Open-mic hosted by Dan Misener! Sign up in this email below to get your song on the program for Toronto’s most happening open stage.

One song per performer, groups welcome and other instruments are good as colour provided that your song is uke-centric.

Please check the list in advance by clicking this evening’s date on the Cujam CALENDAR. We have 10 slots available on a first reserved basis.

A reminder that from this week forward we introduce our best entertainment deal in town, all-inclusive cover charge of $3.
