Velvet Posted November 15, 2010 Report Share Posted November 15, 2010 Punk poet Patti Smith, the Roots and the Cowboy Junkies will play Carnegie Hall this February in a tribute concert to singer-songwriter Neil Young.The concert, a benefit for music and arts programs for underprivileged youth, will feature more than 20 artists.Canadian-born Young's 1970 concert at Carnegie Hall, featuring songs such as Tell Me Why and Cinnamon Girl, is considered one of the influential musician's best concerts.The tribute will feature a wide range of artists singing Young's songs.Among them are:Living Colour. DeVotchKa. Shawn Colvin. Bettye LaVette. Bebel Gilberto. Aimee Mann. Keller Williams. Joan Osborne. Mason Jennings. J Mascis. Pete Yorn. The Cowboy Junkies, the Toronto band fronted by Margo Timmins, have recorded Young songs such as Helpless and Powderfinger.The concert is being organized by New York entrepreneur Michael Dorf, who has put together a series of concerts to benefit educational and youth charities, including Fixing Instruments for Kids in Schools, Church Street School for Music & Art, the Pinwheel Project and Music Unites.
