  1. damn this project of his is coming along fine.  He's been doing live streams on youtube, and has a discord channel live discussion going.  His streams have been him basically bringing in submitted tracks and seeing if they fit, mixing in real-time, taking advice from people in the chat.

I was watching his stream last night and he was working on Bad Time To Be A Clown and was working with my submission on his final mix.  His latest 'final mix' for that is live on his site.  I was shocked that he didn't turf my submission.

approximately 1h12m is the start of my part getting critiqued

This whole series of videos is like a master class of recording and mixing in Logic Pro.  Fantastic shit man.

  2. If you have the tools to record and participate, this is worth your time.  You can be part of Nathan's next recording but time is running short according to his post.

Nathan created a Hippy Fiasco record about 8 years ago.  He recorded people all over the place, and even provided tracks for people to add their own tracks.  As a joke, I suggested I could add tambourine, and he walked me through setting up his tracks in Garage Band.  I sent him my tambourine track for Just Sayin', and he mixed it in to the final master.

If you have access to the album, the tambourine is me, from home having been coached by Nathan over video chat.

He's not kidding when he does this crowd sourced style of recording.

    Hello friends,

We hope you are doing as well as can be in these crazy times.

We're writing with some exciting news. If you haven’t already heard, last month we launched The Barr Brothers' Patreon Catharsis Experiment. “What is that?”, you ask. For roughly the same price as a hot chocolate, you can have access to an avalanche of rare and exclusive Barr Brothers material, rolled out in doses, that you won't find anywhere else. It's in this domain that we'll be emancipating the odds and ends, the static orphans, the dusty hard drives, the archival footage, and new music splatter that has been hiding in the pulverant corners of our world. It's here that we shed the veneer of professionalism and poise and let you in on what really goes on when nobody is looking. We'll be releasing alternate takes, unreleased B-sides, demos, multi-tracked shows, studio experiments gone awry, and who knows what else. And videos! This could go anywhere. An "Ask Andrew" series...? "Great Moments in Russian History” with Morgan Moore....? Maybe even some live-streamed sessions from our studio as we continue to work on our next record, or just blow off steam. There are a lot of possibilities. We’re as curious as you might be as to where this can lead. It’s directly curated by the band, updated monthly, built for experimentation and delight. And....we'll be donating a percentage of your contributions to a different charity each month and updating you about it.

For its debut, we are pleased to offer you this first round of material from off our shelves:

-A multi-tracked live show from the last time we played Levon Helm's Barn in Woodstock, NY December 8, 2018

-A rough mix of our song Kisses From Chelsea from the 2013 Sleeping Operator session, recorded by Ryan Freeland, previously unreleased

-"Devil's Harp" and "Give the Devil Back His Heart", skillfully filmed by our friend Nicolas and Co. during the first night of the "An Album Nightly" shows in Montreal on March 7, 2019.

-A playlist of 5 near-and-dear, unreleased, never before heard, instrumental songs recorded at various instances over the last few years.

So, if any of this piques your interest, we invite you to click the link below and join this experiment!!

Sending you Love and Health in 2021,

    Brad, Andrew and the band.

  4. Is anyone interested in helping me get the lyrics transcribed correctly for Sleepyhead by Surprise Me Mr. Davis?

I have the album version and it's hard to make out the words.  This youtube version conflicts a little bit but also helped, so I'll add that here.

I'm confident with most of the words transcribed, but I highlighted those that don't really make sense.

this morning i went straight to the mountain and there i arose some sleep
to the pounding of a thousand hearts dancing light on their feet
i walked on my hands, spun on my head, and puffed away my sins
i stepped barefoot from my bed right into the ducking jughead bins

    rise and shine sleepyhead,
up and out ‘em outta bed the day’s a’new
and love’s been lookin’ for you
rub your eyes you got something to do,
    you’re a miracle boy

how could i be so afraid through so also last night outside myself  (this is slightly different on the album)
i bet the sun shines so today, like there’s love and nothing else
i’ve been broke so many ways then whatever holds your spirits
but just maybe like the morning rays of the sun across the hills

    rise and shine sleepyhead,
up and out ‘em outta bed the day’s a’new
and love’s been lookin’ for you
rub your eyes you got something to do,
    you’re a miracle boy

(this section doesn't appear on the album)

you see i was stuck inside my head but then life pulled me right from bed
saying you’re just asleep you are not dead and like mama always said

    rise and shine sleepyhead,
up and out ‘em outta bed the day’s a’new
and love’s been lookin’ for you
rub your eyes you got something to do,
    you’re a miracle boy
