Looking forward to seeing them again, even if their new upcoming album isn't everything I'd hoped it might be...
-
It's been out there for months, actually.
The place I work for during the day just released a Death Cab DVD 2 weeks ago:
www.sonicunyon.com/deathcabforcutie
Lots of good live footage on it.
-
Recent listening the last 72 hours:
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
The Anomoanon - The Derby Ram (great Dead-inspired band featuring the brother of Will 'Palace' Oldham)
The Bees - Free The Bees (finally out in Canada later this Month)
Blue Rodeo - Are You Ready
Caribou - The Milk of Human Kindness
Joy Division - Heart and Soul boxset
Manilla Road - The Deluge (80s power metal ala Iron Maiden, Judas Priest with a unique vocalist)
Sorry, that's seven!
-
Yes, I have seen it. The company I work for released it in Canada.
-
Robyn Hitchcock fractured his ankle last week, so what is happening with his show on the 27th? Will the Sadies and Elevator play anyway?
-
Make sure to see Magnolia Electric Co if you live out west - touring from Victoria to Winnipeg starting next week!
-
No, that was just my most recent. I'm not sure if I'd give them another chance.
Can anyone suggest a downloadable show worth checking out? MP3 please, don't know how to SHN yet....

I'm more excited about Iron Maiden and Mastodon at Molson Amphitheatre. Aug 3 or 8th - still to be announced officially. Iron Maiden will only be doing material from their first four albums.
Love the Allmans, seen them 9 times since 1989. moe., they blow. HATED them opening for Phil and Friends in Toronto

Let It Grow is a pretty amazing Weir song. He doesn't have to many of those (let the flames begin...)
-
Great live band. Loved their show at the Underground in Hamilton last fall. Took my kid to it, since he loves their new album Funeral. It was his first club show (he was 18 months old, in a backpack)
People predict their album will sell 500,000 copies in the US by this time next year. It's already over 100,000 (and has soundscanned 14,000 in Canada through the chain stores - wow!)

Magic Pony is having a party Saturday, if you are into weird collector action figures from Japan and Hong Kong, like Pete Fowler's Monsterism, etc...
-
RF - great synth pop. Reminds me of symthsized Mercury Rev and a much more poppier Trans-era Neil Young
The new Caribou jumps back even further soundwise than that last album under the Manitoba name. That record was total My Bloody Valentine-style shoegaze and now they sound like Silver Apples at time! It's a fun, fun record although their live shows never really did it for me.
Are the Junior Boys playing too? Great Talk Talk - inspired electro-pop with dancebeats.

What a great show. Too bad my kid wakes up at 6:30 every morning, or I would have gladly stayed all night long.
-
Terrible band.
They may not be now, but they were total corporate rock when they were formed (by their label).
-
He'd have to get someone to ghostwrite it for him, I'm pretty sure he couldn't pen it himself, judging by the way he speaks. I know he's quite dyslexic too.
It would be interesting, for sure, but it would probably be super f**king weird too. He's a strange cat.

The upcoming album by Spoon, Gimme Fiction, is a wonderful indie rock album. The band writes songs, arranges them, then tears the arrangements apart and deconstructs their songs to see what they end up with. An interesting way to write and record.
The upcoming new album by The Red Chord on Metal Blade is my heavy album right now. They are more metalcore than metal, but they have an insanely quick drummer and can move from grind to slow doomy parts with ease.
Also still loving the Swedish hippie rock band Dungen. Essentially a one man band, the dude is 24 years old and sounds like he recorded in 1968. If you like UK freakbeat and psychedelia you would freak for this guy.

My copy of Phil Lesh's new book Searching For The Sound showed up in the mail today and I'm totally excited about it. I didn't think I'd be so interested in another book about the Dead, especially after Dennis McNally's was so good, but I cracked it open about an hour ago and have been enjoying Phil's twisted view of the world. I'm happy to report I got it for a steal on eBay too - $13 US (cover price is $35 Canadian).
Let's hope old googly-eyed Weir doesn't decide to do one of these too.
Anyone else have an opinion on the book yet?
-
Mike, how about Bullet Proof Nothing or Low Profile?
All kidding and inside jokes aside, it would be great to hear a China>Rider or an Eyes > Crazy Fingers type of segue.
-
Setlist? Are you just playing an album or doing more like a Dead type experience? I know some of the band have experience playinf Dead songs so I'm curious.
-
3-1-69 has a nice Cryptical OtherOne
For personal reasons, I love the version from the Greek in '85 as well (is it 6/16/85?)
10-19-74 Eyes is tha' bomb!

Could anything be worse than the Phish show in 1993 at the Concert Hall in Toronto?

Geez, I was coming to repost my original post from 20hz and Paisley's already done it for me!
This being a dad makes it tough to find time to post all the time...

Yes, he's got a few albums. I believe that this new one was put out by someone from the NYC band Animal Collective, whose latest album is on FatCat.
Ariel was in Hamilton for a house-show with Greg Davis (on Kranky Records). They did a collaborative set.
You can also get some of Ariel's older albums from www.cdbaby.com

I was very surprised to find the new Jerry Band dvd release in my mailbox when I got home from work today! It had no info with it, just a California return address, but I'm not complaining.
I haven't had a chance to sit down and really watch it, but did a quick flip-through before my son went to bed. Deal looked great, as did Tangled Up In Blue.
Off to take a more in-depth look now!
