  2. Don't worry Ollie, he'll be overjoyed if they end up in Kansas Shitty, MO! http://home.att.net/~kchockey/
  3. Sounds like great business: You want to sell something and a dude offers you $250 MILLION. Then, because of a meddling governor and his cronies, you get fed up and settle for selling to somebody else for $198 MILLION. Wow! Good deal. The NHL is fucking up big time with this one. Why do they keep electing Bettman to run this ship of fools?
  4. News of the stoopid. I heard that Leipold was frustrated with the stalling tactics and roadblocks that the NHL head office (Bettman) was playing: http://tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=212106&hubname= Report: Leipold won't sell to Balsillie TSN.ca Staff 6/28/2007 8:55:25 AM Jim Balsillie's bid to purchase the Nashville Predators and relocate them to Southern Ontario appears unlikely now that current Predators owner Craig Leipold has found a new buyer. According to the National Post, Leipold informed Balsillie earlier this week that he would not accept his $238-million US offer for the NHL club. Instead, Leipold is preparing to sell the franchise to California businessman William DelBiaggio, who is expected to move the team to Kansas City instead. DelBiaggio's bid is reportedly $50-million US less than what Balsillie was offering for the club. Balsillie's deal to purchase the Predators was set to close on June 30. Balsillie and Leipold refused to comment on the report although a spokesperson for Leipold said he was unware of any changes to the current plan to sell the team to the Research-In-Motion co-founder. The NHL, which called Balsillie's plans to relocate the team to Southern Ontario "premature", also declined to comment. Despite the fact he doesn't yet own the team, Balsillie recently signed an option for a 20-year lease on Copps Coliseum in Hamilton and began accepting desposits for season tickets and suites. Kansas City, which recently built a brand new downtown arena, has been searching for a permanent tenant and recently made a pitch to try and lure the Pittsburgh Penguins to Missouri. The arena is managed by Anschutz Entertainment Group, which is owned by L.A. Kings owner Philip Anschutz. DelBiaggio has an agreement with the Anschutz Group to own and operate an NHL franchise in the new arena.
  5. Sorry man. That is very true. I was just thinking of when I saw Dick last NYE (or was it the one before) when he made his comeback appearance after his stroke. It was really quite sad to see how much it had effected him and his rapid aging/plastic melting.
  6. Jena Six (1 of 3) In September 2006, a group of African American high school students in Jena, Louisiana, asked the school for permission to sit beneath a "whites only" shade tree. There was an unwritten rule that blacks couldn't sit beneath the tree. The school said they didn't care where students sat. The next day, students arrived at school to see three nooses (in school colors) hanging from the tree. The boys who hung the nooses were suspended from school for a few days. The school administration chalked it up as a harmless prank, but Jena's black population didn't take it so lightly. Fights and unrest started breaking out at school. The District Attorney, Reed Walters, was called in to directly address black students at the school and told them all he could "end their life with a stroke of the pen." Black students were assaulted at white parties. A white man drew a loaded rifle on three black teens at a local convenience store. (They wrestled it from him and ran away.) Someone tried to burn down the school, and on December 4th, a fight broke out that led to six black students being charged with attempted murder. To his word, the D.A. pushed for maximum charges, which carry sentences of eighty years. Four of the six are being tried as adults (ages 17 & 18) and two are juveniles. Yesterday, I was in Jena for the first day of the trial for Mychal Bell, one of the Jena Six. The D.A., perhaps in response to public pressure, tried to get Bell to cop a plea. Bell refused, and today, jury selection began. After today, we'll know whether or not the case will be tried in front of an all-white jury. Jena's 85-percent white, and it remains to be seen whether or not the six can get a fair trial. Both off-the-record and on, Jena residents told me racism is alive and well in Louisiana, and this is a case where it rose above the levee, so to speak. In the next few days, I'll be posting a few photos from Jena that are related to the case, as well as linking to a multimedia piece I'm working on. CNN began reporting on the story today, following the lead of the BBC, who crafted an excellent hour-long documentary that can be found on P2P networks. 7. VD poster by Dali Dali made this painting to warn the soldiers against venereal diseases during the second world war. I guess they had other things on their mind.
  8. LOL ... when is Rich getting there? Is he heading in early too?
  9. Seen Dick lately? He is officially over-ripe and started to melt. A couple of more rockers who have aged ubelievably well (or were just older looking to start out ) are Steve Winwood and John Paul Jones!
  10. Fogerty and Hippiefest are what I was thinking of. SHIT, if you win 'em they are FREE, so who cares? Fogerty is absolutely amazing live. I had the pleasure of getting to see him twice over the last few years. Great performer, and his voice hasn't changed a bit! Corky and Leslie from Mountain can rock hard. They will make Hippiefest good and loud. You like Mule? You'd enjoy Mountain (that's why Warren had Corky come up and play with them). Free club seats for a few summer gigs?
  11. Safe trip you guys. We'll be seeing you down there. Just gotta get through a kickass Canada Day weekend first

  13. I can't even comprehend their loss. There's something deeply sad about losing any loved one, but a small child has got to be that much harder. I'll be giving my kids extra hugs tonight and be thinking of your friends. My deepest sympathies to all those people connected to this tragedy
  14. Looks like they will be streaming a bunch of the shows over the internet too
  15. Here's a bit from that Rose interview;
  16. Well put. I didn't really "get" the White Stripes at first. Mind you, I didn't really give them much time. Then, I saw them interviewed on Charlie Rose and was extremely impressed with Jack and what he had to say and his vision. Like you said, from everything including why he wanted Meg as the drummer, musical stylings, image, choice of colours, etc. etc. I think that we'll be seeing many incarnations of Jack White over the years (along the lines of David Bowie).
  17. He is busy, but nothing like the good Warren Haynes, IMHO
  18. That's exactly it. It's the parents/elders who create the problems. So many are under the belief that if their children should learn anything about any other religion than their own, then they may get brainwashed into following that doctrine. When it is involving those young, impressionable minds, is that the pot calling the kettle black or what?? "Damn, don't you brainwash my child with your information about religion "x", they are getting brainwashed quite nicely by my own religion "y"." My wife, a teacher, has experienced this many times. Whether it be about Christmas, Ramadan, Eid, Easter, Valentine's Day, Hallowe'en, etc. etc. There is always somebody who is determined that they are being persecuted for their religion. My mom took my son to the art gallery on the weekend. Some cool displays before it goes under renovations for 8 months. There was one sculpture called "Crucifixion Without the Cross". No need to give a 5-year-old a monster lesson on what it represents. Rather, it's fun to just ask what he sees. He saw a man jumping in a pool with his arms stretched out, but he was already dead. Pretty good, IMHO. Last night he was looking at his books about the planets and dinosaurs and giving his own interpretation on what came first. It was very entertaining and I'm sure would drive my evangelical family members crazy
  19. I love that shit. I have such an increased respect for Jack and Meg. I wish there were more successful acts out there that had their attitude. Now, why was it that I passed on getting those pit tix to the Molson Amph? ::bang head on desk::
  20. Awesome pics. Thanks for posting. They'll help me "sell" this trip to a couple of more people Counting out time ...
  21. Thanks for the tip. I figure we're going to do the same. Not long now!
  22. http://www.theregister.co.uk/2007/06/25/id_not_science/ UK Gov boots intelligent design back into 'religious' margins Not science, not likely to be science By Lucy Sherriff → More by this author Published Monday 25th June 2007 12:35 GMT Mobile computing: Opportunities and risk - Free whitepaper The government has announced that it will publish guidance for schools on how creationism and intelligent design relate to science teaching, and has reiterated that it sees no place for either on the science curriculum. It has also defined "Intelligent Design", the idea that life is too complex to have arisen without the guiding hand of a greater intelligence, as a religion, along with "creationism". Responding to a petition on the Number 10 ePetitions site, the government said: "The Government is aware that a number of concerns have been raised in the media and elsewhere as to whether creationism and intelligent design have a place in science lessons. The Government is clear that creationism and intelligent design are not part of the science National Curriculum programmes of study and should not be taught as science. " It added that it would expect teachers to be able to answer pupil's questions about "creationism, intelligent design, and other religious beliefs" within a scientific framework. The petition was posted by James Rocks of the Science, Just Science campaign, a group that formed to counter a nascent anti-evolution lobby in the UK. He wrote: "Creationism & Intelligent design are...being used disingenuously to portray science & the theory or evolution as being in crisis when they are not... These ideas therefore do not constitute science, cannot be considered scientific education and therefore do not belong in the nation's science classrooms." The petition was signed by 1,505 people. ®
