  1. Giuliani Skipped ISG Meetings For Motivational Events Featuring ‘Christianity’ And ‘Pumping Music’ Newsday reported this week that former mayor Rudy Giuliani stepped down from the Iraq Study Group after chairman James Baker gave “him a stark choice: either attend the meetings or quit.†Baker was upset that despite serving on the panel for two months, Giuliani had failed to attend a single official meeting of the group. According to his recently released financial disclosure forms, Giuliani made eight paid speeches, each on a different day, during the 23 days the Iraq Study Group met. What hasn’t been noted is that two of the eight speeches were for an organization called Life Win, Inc. (Get Motivated Seminars). What is a “Get Motivated†seminar? According to a 2003 report in the St. Petersburg Times, a Get Motivated seminar is: A daylong program infused with Christianity, patriotism and pumping music suitable for aerobics. Many among the roster of speakers urged the audience of about 25,000 to find their inner power — and to sign up for more seminars and books. At the seminars, Rudy would take the stage to Frank Sinatra’s “New York, New York†with red, white and blue confetti swirling around his head. He would then launch into a speech using the attack and the aftermath of 9/11 to illustrate his “six principles of leadership.†For his two appearances during the Iraq Study Group meetings alone, Giuliani pulled in a combined gross fee of $200,000. Giuliani’s camp has falsely claimed that he left the ISG because he “didn’t want the group’s work to become a political football†for his nascent presidential campaign. In reality it appears he just didn’t want to turn down more opportunities for profit.

  4. RIGHT ON!!! I can truly be proud of my workplace today if this does unfold. It was unbearable listening to those dusty old farts this year (Cole and Neale, not the Leafs ) Thanks for the update
  5. Typical. They're treating him like an Antropov ... ONE OF THESE YEARS HE'S GOING TO BE GREAT. In the meantime they'll just keep throwing money at him They just keep eating away at that cap money so that they're in the driver's seat for when the free agents are up for bidding ... PFFFT
  6. Just can't get any power cables (power chords are fine) near the water!
  7. You bring over the Drive By Truckers and we can get them to be the house band for a pool party!!!
  8. Have a great time. Just a few weeks ago (around Mountain Jam) Phil Lesh was supposed to show up for the Ramble! That would have been SICK. I also remember that the Phil and Friends show in Buffalo the other year when John Schofield sat in was due to Larry Campbell's prior engagement at the Ramble with Levon and Emmylou Harris I believe.
  9. I've just got two plastic-case bookshelf speakers that have done the trick around my pool for the last few years. I also added a massive multi-horned speaker that used to hang from the rafters at Maple Leaf Gardens for a boost every now and then. Literally, i could broadcast to the neighbourhood with it (no low end though ... bummer). I'll try to find a pic when i get home How close are your neighbours?
  10. Can you imagine the celebration for hockey fans when Bettman finally decides to leave? Or, when the owners get off their asses and dump him as the commissioner? It can't be soon enough. http://www.firebettman.com/
  11. John Paul Jones is highly underrated. Would love to see a whole show with him sitting in with Mule. He plays freakin' everything!
  12. Yeah, you hear it and it drives you NUTS! Yo yo yo ... you axed me. Is it anyone's birFday?

  14. http://www.ivaw.org/node/1040 Soldier in Iraq Refuses Combat Mission Yesterday, June 19, 26 year old SPC Eli Israel put himself at great personal risk by making the courageous decision to refuse further participation in the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Eli told his commanding officer and sergeants that he will no longer be a combatant in this illegal, unjustified war. Eli believes that the U.S. government used the attacks of September 11, 2001 as a pretense to invade Iraq and that “we are now violating the people of this country (Iraq) in ways that we would never accept on our own soil.†Eli is stationed at Camp Victory in Baghdad with JVB Bravo Company, 1-149 Infantry of the Kentucky Army National Guard. This soldier’s decision to refuse orders puts him at great risk, especially because he is in Iraq, isolated from legal assistance and other support. The following is a message that Eli sent yesterday to a friend back home: “I have told them that I will no longer play a ‘combat role’ in this conflict or ‘protect corporate representatives,’ and they have taken this as ‘violating a direct order.’ I may be in jail or worse in the next 24 hours. Please rally whoever you can, call whoever you can, bring as much attention to this as you can. I have no doubt that the military will bury me and hide the whole situation if they can. I'm in big trouble. I'm in the middle of Iraq, surrounded by people who are not on my side. Please help me. Please contact whoever you can, and tell them who I am, so I don't ‘disappear.’†Eli is taking an incredible risk by refusing orders in Iraq and will most likely be court martialed. Please help him by contacting his Senator and requesting that he take any steps necessary to support and protect this soldier and ensure that the Army respects his rights and does not illegally retaliate against him. 20. KILLER No Quarter from the Gov't Mule Bonnaroo set! Bonnaroo Music Festival - Manchester, TN 06.17.07 Gov’t Mule Bonnaroo Music Festival Manchester, TN 06.17.07 Once in a blue moon, Gov't Mule has the pleasure of being joined by a living legend on stage; but only once in a blue Mule, when the planets of rock'n'roll align, does one get to witness a performance as legendary as the multiple legends that played tonight. As midnight passed, Sunday morning started when Michael Franti joined the band for the opening song. After a stunning Million Miles From Yesterday, Bob Weir got on board to lend his talents to a long jammed Sugaree and Loser. Then Lewis Black came onstage in a pre-planned gag to stop the band, but ended up being thwomped in the head with a bottle by a less than observant fan. On the band's return to stage, they were joined by John Paul Jones who played Bass, then Keys on Moby Dick (reprise), Livin' Lovin' Maid, Since I've Been Lovin' You and No Quarter to end the first of two amazing sets. Set two started with two never before played tunes, Come Back Baby and Death Don't Have No Mercy, both of which featured Jorma Kaukonen, Jack Casady and Barry Mitterhoff of Hot Tuna. Then came Luther Dickinson of The North Mississippi All Stars for That's What Love Will Make You Do and 32/20 Blues to close out set two. Come encore time, the band returned with no guests in tow for a mind blowing rendition of Sweetleaf-> War Pigs. The crowd wouldn't let the night end, and the band didn't want it to either, so Soulshine was the song of choice for the second encore and the last offering of the night. WOW!!
