  1. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/08/20/swell-season-suicide-crow_n_689745.html "Sung says the man left a friend in the audience around 10 p.m. and soon appeared on a roof that covers the stage. Witnesses say he jumped off the roof and landed on stage near the band's lead singer, Glen Hansard." The video is NOT of the jump, don't worry:
  2. I'm sure there will be plenty o' cheap tix on the street prior to the show, and even cheaper closer to Petty's set starting. Petty being petty? Puts on a great show.

  4. Totally f'd up is right. Nice for him that he's no longer suffering, but to now scar all those who had to witness it. What a fucking selfish bastard. Wonder if he did it after "Falling Slowly"
  5. Wild. I had come across that opinion piece last night when reading this thread. Good article with some fine points as to the possible outcomes of the situation. The thing that concerns me is that the Israeli decision makers will "force the hand of the US" by a bombing raid into Iran if the US doesn't act the way they want them to. It's always about who makes the first move (or who is perceived to depending on the spin). Let's hope cooler heads will prevail and that things settle down.
  6. Therein lies what is believed to be problem ... Ahmadinejad. Fuckup, setup, coverup, whatever, these are tense times.
  7. Why not go after Hezballah then? Isn't that like saying that the USA attacked Iran by proxy when Iraq invaded Iran in 1980, therefore giving Iran full right to attack the US? Not saying there's a clear answer or an easy right or wrong. I just think that the threatening talk about an air strike in Iran (by Israel, or a coerced USA) will do nothing to further any sort of peace in the region. The reasoning is weak and veiling it as preemptive just doesn't hold water. No winners
  8. When was the last time Iran invaded/attacked a neighbour?

  16. Richie's final performance was recorded by the CBC. Should be broadcast this fall. Here's a good article describing his last gig (and it was performed in Canada): http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/national/british-columbia/tom-hawthorn/richie-hayward-saved-his-best-feat-for-his-last-performance/article1673800/
  17. Third'd on The Changeling. Freaked the shit out of me when he comes back in the house and the ball bounces down the stairs! Totally prefer the "non-gore" horror/thrillers anyday. Mindfucks! BTW ... totally love the ice pick in the forehead! Now go home .. you know .. the bus! Leather ... you're plooking me too hard
  18. Yup, catch them while you can. I caught them for the third time recently. At the Queen Elizabeth Theatre show in Toronto it was always a joy to watch them on stage and see their great songs performed in a relatively intimate setting. For me, after the three shows now, I am ready to see Glenn perform with his band The Frames and get away from the Swell Season stuff. I thought a lot of the `magic` between Glenn and Marketa has fizzled and just doesn`t resonate in the same way as before. Do see the film Once as Jaimoe mentioned. Such a great movie and music. Nothing like that scene in the recording studio when they are recording and the band kicks in ... mmmmmgood.

    Treme

totally dug Treme. It does take a couple of episodes to get into the characters and the pace. Music is fantastic to say the least and the cameos by influential players add to the show`s genuine character. Great finish to the season too. The show takes a number of turns along the way and is well worth getting through to the end (and watching through some speakers that can do some justice to the great musicianship). Loved it when they offered the one character a gig for pay. Choose between two hands, two gigs. He asks what the one he missed out on was, and it was to play trombone in a horn section with Little Feat :)
