  1. We played Tequila Rose.

It is true, they are starting to book more bands but I would clarify with the owner/manager/person that this should be advertised as a "band night" so you don't have a place packed full of people yelling out various phrases such as, "play some hip-hop!" or "play something we KNOW."

Three cheers for keeping music live.

  2. I am worried about theft as well and wondering how to prevent it. While most of Toronto is succeptible to bike theft, The Annex, where I live, is notorious for bikes dissapearing.

I've been told to "uglify" my bike in order to make it less desirable, however I've had some other friends that told me it doesn't make a difference. Any thoughts on how to "uglify"? Is it even worth it?

  3. AfroPops & HRC - see you cats in Guelph!

The Good Doctor - We were trying to get something going for Ottawa, but it didn't work out this time around unfortunately. We need to get back as it's difficult to go for so long without Gravy Pizza from Georgie's or samosas from Nagina.

    CT - Western love...now that's a great idea.

Thanks for all the support everyone.

  5. Have you read "On A Cold Road" by (Rheostatic) Dave Bidini? It's a collection of stories of Canadian rock'n'roll life on the road, told amidst the threaded tale of the Rheostatics.

I'll second that recommendation. I read it while we were on the road (actually Dima - I'd HIGHLY recommend 'On The Road' by Jack Kerouac...I think you'd dig it) - although we were touring in the summer so the road wasn't so cold at the time ;). Inspiring, somewhat, to say the least.

Otherwise go for "A Confederacy of Dunces" by John Kennedy O'Toole. Brilliant. Couldn't put it down.

Edit to add: I also recently finished A Fine Balance. Very powerful.

  6. Starting this Thursday in Montreal is a three-day mega-event known as "All Star Weekend". ASW will encompass three nights of parties, with the final night on Saturday, September 16th, at Club Soda. We're honoured to be part of this event and perform at such an amazing venue.

The first time I was at Soda was during my Freshman year when I saw The String Cheese Incident there. Anyone else at that show?

So - if you're in the area, c'mon down and party with us on Saturday. For advance tickets email nbuchman(at)rogers(dot)com.

    See ya!

METHODOLOGY.... Five Kats that like nothing more than to belt out some thick grooves, solid funk, and sonic soul like it was an out-of-body experience. Other band traits include; enticing people to dance, rockin a live stage, smack-talking each other to score wins on a peer-judged point system for annual prizes, enjoying cold beverages, and debating the current state of the music industry. Oh yeah, they spend way too much time (and money) in late-night record stores. Formed in late 2003, Methodology came together as five individual artists looking to combine their efforts in order to create and perform some intense, original music based on a main element of serious groove.... that is what now takes up most of their time. They love meeting new TRUE FUNK SOLDIERS, so y'all make sure you introduce

    Dave Borins

"Music is the medium through which I process the world. I search for words and sounds that affect everything in their path. I am a 23 year old wandering songsmith, born in Canada, but raised in the universe."

Dave Borins has arrived on the Canadian Music scene with strong convictions, a huge repertoire and plenty of soul.

Wise beyond his years, Dave has traversed the globe with family, friends and lovers as he searches for universal truth, beauty and meaning. He is a graduate of McGill University with a degree in Political Science and English Literature. This unique mix of academics and experience ensures a deep well of musical and poetic ideas.

The song "You Dont' Really Love Me" was recently selected for the soundtrack of PBS' Roadtrip Nation, and will be broadcasted in primetime across the USA and released on DVD.

Dave plays with one ear in the sky, and one in the dirt. Nothing is sacred, but all things are respected. Old fashioned, roots based chords and themes are fused with modern ideas, characters and situations. His music is catchy and familiar, yet somehow otherworldly. He mixes the sweet with the bold, the old with the new, and his live show will kick ya in the ass.

We're hosting the night, so we'll be doing a short acoustic set to start things off.

  9. As many of you know, the XVI International AIDS Conference is happening right now in Toronto.

A South African NGO called Treatment Action Campaign is holding a fund-raiser at The Orbit Room in Toronto as part of the Conference. The Event is set for Thursday, August 17th, 2006.

TAC is an organization that lobbys for greater and more equitable access to HIV treatment for South Africans. They have many other initiatives and the funds from this concert would be allocated to their gender programming- to address Women & HIV/AIDS.

We will be contributing an acoustic set to the night in addition to spoken word artists and hip-hop DJ's.

Hope to see some of you out! Doors are at 9pm.
