  2. Catholics in the 20th c., meanwhile, have produced some pretty astonishing things (often in spite of their popes), like Liberation Theology in Latin America, which underscores the "preferential option for the poor" that the Second Vatican Council distilled from scripture in the 1960s, or peacemaking teams like the ones that put themselves in place in Iraq as human shields. And then you've got rich-bastard groups like Opus Dei to counteract all that.

Great post....it's sad how over the year's the Catholic Church has overlooked what is essential in its teachings ( like Liberation Theology) and clung to the incidentals ::

  3. Great tunes, lads! Can't believe some of the new (to me) music I'm discovering these days. It's like I'm 18 again.....and that wasn't yesterday ;)

With a corporate stranglehold on the public airwaves, I'd long since given up hope of finding anything but sh!t on the radio, but what folks like yourselves and the Rev, tonberry etc are doing through campus radio is wonderful. It's so great to hear folks who are actually passionate about what they're doing and what they're playing. I hope you guys get a chance to do it again...real soon.

  4. "and the answer to the question is..."

Happy birthday, Brad! What a week it's been...5000 posts, your birthday, and you're the official answer to a real live radio contest question :: talk about celebrity status :: you deserve it all, man. Have a good one :D

  5. Just read my Whig Standard...boy something like this really rattles the bones. Hope you're doing OK Badams. My sympathy goes out to the lad's family & friends. About the only comforting thing (if there is any), in a situation like this, is that we in this country are still able to be shocked and horrified by such a senseless waste of human life.

  6. Friday March 11th, 2005 - The Sadies, CTO

alright, well, i dont know which Good brother is which, but when we walked in, the one with the bigger hair and raspier voice who could easily be in a daily comic strip was beltin out a chorus of 'BA-BY!!.. somethin something.. BA-BY!!' - and i was sold. everytime he stepped up the mic and belted out a 'BA-BY', i love it more and more.

hey quigsy, great review of a great week of music. Sounds like you arrived at the Sadies with Travis Good singing "Loved on Look"...a song that was originally recorded by Elvis Presley. Glad to hear the boys were in fine form. Still kickin' myself for missing these guys in Ottawa...actually i shoiuld be kicking my stupid car..... ::

  7. grrrrrr :: guess i wasn't meant to go anywhere tonite. Started out from Perth to Ottawa, but when I got to the stop light in Carleton Place, the oil light came on in the car. So I pulled into the Esso station and put in some oil thinking that would solve the problem, but at the next light, the same thing....not being mechanically inclined, but knowing that's not good and not wanting to be stranded on the side of the road, alone, between Ottawa and Perth at 2 o'clock in the morning, I turned around and came home :( now I'm listening to Favourite Colours by The Sadies. Great CD, but not the same. Hope everyone had a good time.

  8. Good idea, Del. Jaimoe makes a good point in cautioning against making a judgement based on one show alone. Interestingly enough, Queens of the Stone Age were also on that bill and also suffered, in my opinion, from poor sound, so the comments about sound for opening bands may also bear some consideration.

  9. Highly respected, but not my cup of tea. I heard them open for the Chili Peppers at the Corel Centre. The mix was muddled...you couldn't understand a word the guy was yelling...you couldn't distinguish one instrument from another. At first, i thought it was just the sound that night, but the Chili Peppers sounded fine. I don't know what their recorded work is like. That's just my take on Mars Volta based on one show....

  10. well I guess Del isn't the only one...doesn't look like Hamilton is in the cards (no Spades hehe) for me this weekend either :( but closer to home this has become my destination of choice. Always up for a good time with The Sadies and looking forward to hearing The John Henry's and picking up a copy of their Cd. anyone know what time this gets underway?
