Hey nice scoop, Rev. :: Will be listening for sure!
-
Right on...congrats Del!!
-
That may have been me....in the nero shirt, with a beard, posing as Bouche.
Thanks Asparagus. Good job hehehe
-
Sorry Dr.J, as much as I hate to miss a good night of boozing with friends, I had to sit that one out.
I blame it on being the end of my first 5-day week at work since november. Monday-Friday SUX!
I hear ya' bouche. Sounds like you missed some action tho. Then again I was there and managed to miss most of it...so who knows. But there was a fellow there in a nero shirt with a beard who looked an awful lot like the fellow in your avatar...right? I didn't just imagine that... did I?... sh!t... maybe I only imagined meeting Del...is that possible...
-
bouche wasn't there... ,
Thanks, Del. That's the very reason I hesitate to just start introducing myself to people.

Hey folks, thanks to everyone who came out last night. I feel badly about the issues people have raised, but understand their validity. I (I'm sure bradm would agree) have seen The Spades at the Pour House when it was less crowded, less loud, less crazy. Not sure why the somewhat manic/over the top feel to last night (U. of O.'s pre-show hype???). I appreciate that people are keeping their dislike/distaste of the venue etc. separate from their opinion of the band.
It was great to see brad again and to meet Meggo, Del and rubberdinghy. I know there were others I should have met. I realize now seeing his pic on here, I should have recognized bouche (and others). Sorry about that. Maybe another time....another place....maybe boogieknight's backyard
-
I'll be at The Pour House on Friday night for The Spades. Dr. J, any chance that the band will commandeer that booth in front of the stage for merchandise and stowage like they did the last time? If that's possible, I'd really appreciate it, as that's about the best place to set up the taping gear.
Aloha,
Brad
Hey Brad great to see you're coming out tomorrow night. I'll do my best to make sure the boys hold your spot for you. Good to see some other folks will be joining us as well. Should be a sweet night of rock & roll for sure.
-

James McKenty & The Spades in Halifax
Fri. Jan.7 The Marquee Club (w/April Wine)
Sat. Jan.8 Hell's Kitchen
In Ont the Spades have played with Brothers in Stereo, Rude Mechanicals, Matt Mays and were part of the benefit concert held by the Tragically Hip in kingston along with the Trews etc. Lots of east coast connections, but this is their first trip there. If you like your rock & roll straight up in the tradition of the great Neil Young, you will enjoy these guys. Info re: the April Wine show can be found at www.themarqueeclub.com and I will post info for the next night when availabale.

Rev, living in Perth, most of my shows, Spades, or otherwise, tend to be Kingston/ Ottawa. Let me know when you're heading to peterboro tho. i'm always looking for an excuse to hit the MoHo on a Friday nite....as if bone-rattlin' rock & roll weren't enough of an excuse....
-
yeah, just wanted to wish everyone the best of the season (& a great '05) & to say thanks for letting people like myself hang out here. It's been a long, long while since I've been around folks who care about their music as much as I do. I'd forgotten how special that is thanks.
-
then they're in Cambridge (Jan.20) & kingston (Jan.21). May be a while before they hit the Moho in '05. Actually i find the fact that folks in Peterborough can wander down to the Moho any Wed or Fri and catch the SilverHearts or Spades to be one of life's great musical injustices anyways hahaha just kidding :: envy is a terrible thing
-
Just a reminder. Tonight @ The Rivoli. A rush different than the Xmas one. Take a break.
-
Happy birthday, Moose! Hope you have a good one. Being Spades' fans, i'm sure our paths will cross eventually. Are you going to the MoHo NYE?
-
Friday, Dec.17
James McKenty & The Spades + The Golden Dogs @ The Rivoli 334 Queen St W Toronto
Doors at 9:00
The place will rock. Hope some folks can make it out.

Yeah, for all of the above, Brad, and for introducing me to the board & the music of Nero. 3 thumbs up, big guy!

I think that with the advent of digital music and the increased accesibility of music in that format, the entire industry is in for a major paradigm shift
I think you're quite right. It's the shift which is causing the lack of clarity. It's also what is causing the current paranoia among the major labels.
-
I realize this is a forum about jambands, but i was wondering if people could clarify for me what constitutes an "indie band." In my mind, an indie band is one that operates independent of a record label (and management company). Therefore, a band like The Golden Dogs (whom I like very much) would not be considered an indie band since they a contractual agreement with The Agency Group and a recording contract with True North Records. In most circles, however, it seems they would be considered indie since they are not under contract to one of the 4 major record labels. Correct? Under that definition, very, very few bands would not be "indie bands" Right?(disregarding discussion of style etc.)
-
I would guess from what I've heard in the last few year's that they have 20+ originals that are not on Restless Soul or Burning on Fumes and we're not talking throwaways. I'm still waiting for the recorded version of "The Day That You Feel The Way That I Do Is the Day That I'm Not Myself". :: Seriously.

James McKenty and The Spades ROCK ::
once again I had an awesome Friday night at the MoHo
I need to find out the name of the song they opened the show with. I actually requested it on The Spades forum thinking it was called Powerlines
Wish i were in Perth tonight...have a great show
cowboy
Thanks, Cowboy, glad ya' had a great time last night! Seen this band in various venues, but i'll never forget the first time i saw them at the MoHo...the vibe between band and crowd was incredible. Wish i could make it more often.
Be surprised if it wasn't Power Lines, they often open with it. Yeah, i'm looking forward to tonight. As Nelles would say...a Spades show and i don't have to drive miles & miles...sweet! Kev-O's right, gotta get the boys on the road.
-
Picked it up at the same time. interesting premise with the cover tunes
-
Just a reminder that this show has not happened, but is about to happen ::
