blonde dreads and vegan wraps sounds about right. Glasses I don't remember, so it could've been may, but then my long weekends tend to blend together and my memories are vague and fuzzy at best ...

I'm starting to think I can put a face to Bokonon ... I'm thinking Izzy's last summer and the word 'harmonium'.

I actually have an old t-shirt that says "Christ is Hot".
There are lots of portrayals of black Jesus. The representation changes from culture to culture.

In the wake of my excitement over the announcement of the return of The Spades to O-town in early april, I missed the name of the local DJ who was played prior to GTB and Diesel Dog.
bradm, did you catch it?
(mmmmm ... soft machine ... i'm just gonna float for a minute ...)

Not wishing to tread in on the religious aspect of any of this, but I've always found that the following statement speaks volumes about just how .. ermm .. let's say .. pragmatic the Church, as an institution, has been willing to be in order to guard its social/cultural/political influence (and economic security?):
"It has served us well, this myth of Christ" -- Pope Leo X

scrabble and the rapture rawk. Lanie's pretty cool too, 'cept she never smiles ...
-
It's all cool. You left some good discs behind. Sleep for music is always a fair trade ::

It's all about the black beer for us on St. Pat's, and Patty Bolands is where we'll be at.

hahaha ... you never turned off that alarm clock I placed by your head though ... I consistently woke up to that thing from 4:00am - 7:00am. Couldn't figure out a) why my alarm clock was going off (too tired to realize it wasn't my alarm clock buzzing), or why I couldn't make it shut the fack up.
You did well. Most of our overnight guests never make it to work the next day.
-
The people behind me were confused, "What does it mean to let your backbone slide?"
Bwahahaha ... ouch! I take comfort in the fact that I at least still look nineteen-ish. Now if only I could find a way to feel nineteen-ish.

You know the handbook we all got when we were adolescents? The one with the instructions on "how to remove your bra without taking off your shirt" etc.? It's been revised and updated for a new generation.
I wonder why I never received a copy of that manual ... there I was, fumbling around like an idiot, not realizing there were clearly written directions available
I wonder what these kids will do when they get bored of discovering sex...Haven't we all discovered that the answer to this is ... drugs? (and when you get tired of discovering drugs? Sex on drugs, of course)
fu©k what ever happened to plain old kissing tag.[color:"purple"] oral sex is the new kissing
Ah, but all this speculation about and judging of the 'youth of today' makes me feel old ...
-
but, what is going on with kids these days??
Yeah, teens are always hypersexual, but the present batch seems to be very explicitly and unabashadly so.
I'd say good for them, except for all the studies that suggest that their knowledge/understanding of the various risks is seriously lacking -- including a disturbing lack of concern about AIDS.
The way that most of my days are structured means that I end up walking through or past throngs of young teens all the time ... regular random sexual advances are part and parcel of that. I find it's helpful to just find them flattering instead of alarming.
Two nights ago a young girl helpfully explained to me that instead of standing there waiting for the bus, what I should be doing is taking my clothes off for her ... who knew?
I don't know if all the talk of rainbow lipstick parties among just newly pubescent kids is exagerrated/overblown, but if they're as common as I'm lead to believe ... wow, that sh!t sure ain't spin the bottle or 2 minutes in the closet.
-
Hey, thanks man! Lots of other cool sh!t on that page too (from experience to metaphor, etc..)
-
Hehe, you know Del, you've gotta play me some gabber sometime. It's foreign territory to me.
Yeah, no gabber. Come out anyways! If nothing else, I can promise you that lots of pretty girls will be there dancing themselves silly.

Right, so it's a little off topic for this board, and it's a little late to be announcing, but ...
A friend of ours is throwing a party tonight at the Pink NightClub (Old Vibe/Level 2) - 172 Rideau Street. It's $10 at the door, or tickets are available at Norml Clothing & Allegro.
It's a non-profit event with all proceeds going towards the Natural Cancer Treatment for Multiple Mylomia.
The club will be divided into two rooms. Room one will feature house (where you'll find me) and room two will be top 40 (yeah ...)
Room 1:
Mad Boy Matt (funky disco house)
Deedot (party house)
DJ Nodi (progressive, techno, house)
FDM (progressive house)
Room 2:
Josee (hiphop, top 40, R&
Martin Le (hiphop, top 40, R&
It's a good cause, so if you're into this type of thing, or just looking for something to do other than Shonen Knife, it'd be great to see you out there.

Haha ::
Lots of other weirdness of this sort (and the hows & whys of it all) in the book "The Man Who Tasted Shapes". I found a copy of it for about $2 ... guess it couldn't have been a big seller.
Also here:
"Does your favorite book smell like textured circles?" ... "Does Sting's voice look like golden spheres?" Yoinks! ::
-
My point of reference is probably skewed, but it didn't sound insane to me.
It's nice to be told you're beautiful.
-
a hurting unit, huh? ::
I think I was at this show last night ...

Appreciate and respect the more detailed opining too, Freeker, even though I disagree. The over the top, kind of grating vocals (from the keyboardist cum new vocalist) are part of what turns me on about HHH. And they make me tap my foot and shake my butt a little, and I never question that ...
Not sure about the 'initial wave of mainstream infatuation with indie'. Seems to happen every couple of years. There was a bit of a garage revival with perhaps a bit of excessive attention from the mainstream press, certainly, but I like the idea that people sometimes manage to get paid for their efforts. Then again, the indie kid occupies about 2/3 of this body, so that's where I'm coming from on that. I try to not let what's hot and what's not affect me too much ... naive sincerity is the new cynicism (pass it on).
Anyways, cheers dude!
-
haha.. yeah Del, heard you had a late night last week (and the week before?).
We were thinking about going tonight, but then I heard that the band doesn't start until 11:30? Hmm ... might be a bit late ... I can feel the D and G backing out as I type ...
Gracie's, Raggamuffin .. Gracie's, Raggamuffin ...
Damn.

Yeah, they do suffer a little from repetiveness. They do definately have a unique sound though, and they reworked their lineup in a major way awhile back, so I imagine the repetiveness is largely a factor of them finding their new footing.
What's amazing to me is that they've been able to ride out this wave from an album released in 2002. That's a helluva run from one record. I'm assuming that this tour must mean that they have just released or are just releasing something new. Maybe it's just the indie kid in me, but I'm excited to check it out and I appreciate Beat's heads up about this show.
(Freak By Night, I'm guessing you'll be making the same post on the various Steve Earle, Beatles, Arcade Fire, Broken Social Scene & co., Spades, Motorhead (!), Dogs Die in Hot Cars, etc.., etc.., threads. Best brew some coffee dude. You've got a long night ahead of you )

Yeah, "HOB" is rather cryptic, and I'm not sure how it translates into Hot Hot Heat. If it is the 3H, I'll be at this one.

afraid ... to look ... in wallet.
Suddenly glad we get a full 364 day break until next time. Hope those who were able to celebrate aren't feeling as green this morning as their beer looked last night.
