  1. Dylan is Dylan and he did what I expected. as such I enjoyed him.

    well said :)

as to other's common complaint of him being "off" or "bad", I think thats just a matter of personal opinion, mood, seat, etc. Yes, his vocals are often weak, he's not the best keyboard player in the world, his interaction with the crowd is zero ... but he's Bob Freakin' Dylan!! If anyone has earned the right to approach his perfomance on stage as he sees fit, he has.

and fwiw, he WAS into the show on Friday. we were close enough to see him smiling to band members, nodding to give solo's, mocking sour notes, etc.

the man ain't gonna tapdance on a trampoline. he's just gonna play live some of the greatest songs ever written.

  2. anyone else go? I really enjoyed the show, pretty standard set. Bob's on keyboards (and harp) throughout the whole show, backed up by an excellent band. Opened with Maggie's Farm, and treated us to a range of tunes, old and brand new. Tweedle Dee is a fun tune that almost got the conservative crowd going, but alas, didnt. Overall, an A- (mostly because we had excellent seats and its fun to see Bob almost look at the crowd).

The Foo Fighters opened, and were very impressive. I'd never seen them live before and had always just figured they were a toss-away band, but Grohl's the real deal. This was an acoustic set for them and they were very warmly welcomed by a crowd that seemed to be there to see them just as much as Dylan. The highlight of the evening, and perhaps one of the greatest single moments I have ever seen in concert was his solo version of Best of You. Utterly spine tingling. BE SURE to get there to see this!

I think a lot of people were either late for, or completely missed the show due to a big pile-up on the 401 from TO. We got inside just as the Foo's took the stage, despite leaving more than an hour early. Peace to the people in the munched cars.

  3. wow. the show was fantastic! ... the band was well rehearsed and bigger than expected. there were three vocalists (two guys, one girl), guitar, bass, drums, keys, percussion, plus two saxamophones and a trumpet. fun, fun!!

EXCELLENT! Im jealous. A real treat! Paul Heaton has a great pop voice, I think. Yeah, I noticed how many horns were on the live tracks. Really added to it all and would have been amazing to see in such a small venue. How long was the show? Did you have a voice left at the end of the eveing? See any tapers? (motionless guys wearing baseball hats, glasses and a heavy backpack up near one of the speakers, hehe) :)

  4. Have just gotten into sushi over the past few years. Nothing too great in Guelph, but we've discovered a place on College in TO called JunJun Sushi, just at the top of Kensington Market which is our favourite now. Cheap, beautiful presentation and very tasty. And Sushi Star in downtown Hammer is really good too - an all you can eat, order off the menu, sorta thing.

I always thought when ya ordered sashimi that the Flaming Lips would come out in bear suits, but that's just not true. was horribly misled. ;)

  5. Fortune Magazine) -

The supply of oil is not limitless but apparently the current generation of Americans is all too willing to exhaust it by buying more vehicle than they need and letting their children and grandchildren fend for themselves.

and this is surprising how?

ps, us Canucks aint all that much better

  6. He could conceivably stay for another term. THat 2 term law was only put into place in the 40's after FDR died' date=' and was the Republicans idea. If the Republicans win the midterms they could push through legislation to recind that law.[/quote']

Nope, it would require an amendment to the constitution, not just "legislation." Amending the constitution in the USA requires support at the federal level (house and senate, and more than just a 50% + 1, either a 2/3 or 3/4 majority) as well as ratification by the individual states (and support from a certain number of them, with the supporting states having a certain percentage of the population). Even if there was enough support (which I strongly doubt), there is no way all that can be done by early 2008, which is the time period in which the Republicans will have to choose their candidate.

    Aloha,

    Brad

oh yee of little faith ... where there's a will, there's a way. they bought the presidency after all, twice! ;)

  7. i'll be mystified if they reelect bush. the man really does come across as a complete moron at each and every public appearance the he makes.

truer words were never spoken ... in 2004.

unfortunately, you would have been mystified like the rest of us were, are, and always will be.

Dubya is the trans-fat of politics ...

  8. i love this band too. i used to be a huge Housemartins fan, back in the day, and was lucky to have seen them play live in TO. i think i saw the beautiful south too. :o the late 80's / early 90's are a haze. ;)

woman in the wall is my fav BS tune. happy happy tune and whoa! what the hell did he just say!? he cut up his wife and put her body parts in the wall only to have them bleed thru? the sufjan stevens song, john wayne gacy, has the same delightfully cheerful yet bizarrely macabre feeling to it.

  9. So betting pool time, then? What's going to destroy us all first, war or environmental degradation?

it will be a giant fire-breathing, gibberish-speaking lizard from Gamehenge, named Dubya the Brave, because after all, lizards do things smart people dont do. and of course, he will be led by the evil Mr. Wilson Cheney.

  10. rush limbaugh is just a schill for the far right wing of the republican party. most of what he says is simply intended to push the envelope as far to the right as possible. of course he is absurd - thats the point. he's a clown. the only thing that doesnt make sense about him is the fact that the rest of us still pay any attention to him.

i doubt that most mainstream republicans would accept his bizzare views on this (or anything, for that matter) but with his extremist views on the table, it makes those slightly less distasteful views of simply banning stem cell research, or whatever, a little more acceptable because they arent as bad as his.

the tragic thing is that he's continually allowed to attack good people like Micahel J. Fox. God Bless America, indeed.
