  1. I'm disgusted.

Time to make voting mandatory. No vote, no paycheck.

    story here

I've enjoyed reading your posts Birdy and I have to assume that this is just bitter sarcasm...

I voted but it meant nothing...there wasn't one leader or party that spoke to me or reached me in any way...no ispiration, a TOTAL LACK of leadership from all parties...

This is a low point in Canadian politics...

I did laugh when I saw our leaders casting their ballots into our state-of-the-art hi-tech cardboard box voting machines...no, I'm not saying we should be punching buttions and pulling levers like the good ol' USofA; kinda like the small-town feel...

But I'm still wondering, like many, "Why the hell were we voting?"

  2. The Liberals need a new leader and with the economy failing the Conservatives will probably be in a much worse spot when we go to the polls again (in December).

I think the title of this thread is quite appropriate.

Without question the Liberals need a new leader. The numbers say it all. Down 27 seats, only the second Liberal leader possibly not to become Prime Minister. The Liberals still have the very dark cloud of the Sponsorship Scandal covering them and not very many, if any, apolgies were made to the people of Canada for the theft of tax payers money...Dion just wasn't the person for this role...Kennedy should have been the person to lead the party and I'm sure that we'll hear much about him in the days & months to follow...

The low voting turnout speaks in VOLUMES...Harper was too deaf and arrogant to hear it and believed in "the polls" hoping for a majority government when most Canadians DIDN'T want to go back to the polls. He has probably signed his own walking papers for that blunder...

It's not hard to determine the low voter percentage as there really wasn't a leader who was worth voting for 47% of registered voters...

And for many people in busy cities having an election following a long weekend definitely played a factor into making it to the polls...some of you may laugh or find that hard to believe but it it was a question asked and many responded that it wasn't a perfect day to have a federal election...

And it's not just bye bye Harper, it's also bye bye Dion...

  3. Also it seems this is the lowest voter turnout in history...approximately 1 out of 2 Canadians voted and the on-line chatter points that people are angry that it wasn't time to go to the polls, there were no strong leaders and at a time when the economy is fragile there were more important things to be doing than electing a second minority government...

  4. CBC just called it and I wouldn't be surprised if Canada's first coalition government is formed and they sidestep a non-confidence vote because sure as shite the opposition isn't going to let Harper continue with his government for another 2 1/2 years...

So bye bye Stephen, bye bye Stephane, hello country in chaos ;)

  5. Isn't Jonathan Cheechoo or someone from Flin Flon? I'd go there!

Neil Young's granny used to work in a copper mine and entertain the miners with piano playing...

And Mike Myers as "Donnie Shulzhoffer" makes a great reference to Flin Flon in the Hocky Flick "Mystery,Alaska" a la Don Cherry style...

That's gotta be of some interest for a vacation destination... :content:

  6. I can't see any of those people running this country.

My thoughts as well...kept asking myself how is it that these people are the leaders of our federal parties...because those more intelligent than these "leaders" know that a better life is not found in poltics... :)

Though Elizabeth May, I thought, was the one who addressed the issues best...

What the hell do I know...they're all idiots!! ;)

But man, Harper's arrogance is brutal...good study on copying the mannerisms of US politicians though...

  7. I'm also positive that comments and reactions will become much more intense and heated the closer we get to October 14th...

My $0.02 is that I think we'll see a CPC majority government...

We live in a country that had a chance to have all parties working somewhat together as a minority government. Parties working together to find level ground and achieve many thngs but as we live the "real" world everyone wants to be king and for that we are not as strong as we could be...I'm not talking about achieving Utopia but what's wrong with working towards it... :)

  8. Keep swinging that one arm Birdy...your posts are well-worded, backed up with solid facts and, in my opinion, make many of us liberal-lefties look a bit off-guard...kinda like Dion! ;)

I'll probably be burned in effigy for that last one but it'd be pretty boring if everyone was spouting the same shite! :content:

  9. Stop blaming the last government for everything and I'll stop using his own words against him as if he were being vetted or tried or judged or some other thing that an election isn't?!?!?!?... poor little stevie.

YOA needs a rehaul... so do all of our social programs such as participaction (nevermind... scrapped), or cultural funding... which has somehow in Mr.H's opinion gone up after the most recent funding cuts?!?!?!?!?!?! So does healthcare... let's privatize it, that way it's not our fault if it goes south, literally.

Why do we produce so much oil yet pay so much when a storm *almost* hits American rigs... is that a federal thing or provincial too. I'm tired

Actually i wasn't blaming the last government...I am happy to finally see this issue addressed and possibly overhauled...

I'm tired as well...with all the low-brow ignorant ads that we're being subjected to...do they really sway a person's vote?...if anything I'd choose not to vote for the party with the obscenely ridiculous ones!!! ;)
